Ollie Mitchells - Fuchsia (an animated music video)

I recently created a music video for the rapper Ollie Mitchells, for his track Fuchsia.

I used a mix of traditional green-screen video and environments built in Unreal Engine 5.

Note: There is mild NSFW language!

I also created a brief behind-the-scenes video explaining my process.

Hi @MrSaarinen,

Excellent Music Video and Tutorial. I truly appreciate your gifts. You and Ollie are Visionaries!

I predict the future is Interactive Music Videos (IMV)...

I’ve been prototyping the concept with both Abstract Level Design and considering Rhythm Game Mechanics and more. I was inspired by Fortnite’s Travis Scott Astronomical.

My goal is to produce an entire interactive Music Album, which is formatted similar to a Game App, in which each Song is its own Interactive Level Mini-game you can select from main menu to play/Listen.

IMV can support Artists directly with in-app purchases of merch, collectibles, concert tickets and more.

I imagine interactive music videos could be pretty interesting!

I know from making VR videos in the past, it can be hard to get the viewer (player) to focus on the specifics of the story you’re trying to tell. That’s because they’re able to look around and focus on whatever they want, unlike with traditional video.

I imagine you’d have the same issues in an IMV; the player will want to focus on whatever they find interesting in the world. That might mean creating a wide range of objects (or toys) that the player can interact with in sync with the music, rather than trying to tell a coherent story, as I did with Fuchsia.

That’s to be expected and encouraged. The player can follow along or explore. Just adds to the replay value. I designed the worlds for that purpose. I hide clues and secrets in it related to the whatever story im trying to tell. Easier to do with abstract art and instrumentals.
