Hello! It’s been almost a year since VFX-making has piqued my interest and this challenge has been a perfect opportunity to… well, challenge myself.
I’ve had a couple of ideas for the video but a rabbit in top hat just seem to really fit the prompt for me. The cosmic theme was initially inspired by the Celestial skill skins in Path of Exile and the comet was inspired by “Your Name” which I watched for the first time halfway through making this :melting_face:. The set has endured a few transformations, though much less than I expected! Same with the VFX: I think only two were scrapped.
I did have quite a few struggles with the comet (scratchpad was not kind to me) and the beam (many, many iterations).
The other thing I struggled with was keeping it lighthearted-ish. I wanted to capture a feeling of magic, the whimsical “it looks cool” type and not the “you’re going to explode” type (well, less so for the final sequence :sweat_smile: ). Have I succeeded? Not sure.
I also learnt that character animation and camera movement are quite difficult.
But overall I am pretty happy with the result!

This felt exactly like a boss fight in an MMORPG that would make me realize how awful I am at dodging. :joy: Especially once the orbs changed color and felt a bit more powerful. Beautifully done.
