[Official] Hardware Performance Survey

We have created this thread to help with our ongoing process of ensuring great editor performance across as many different systems as possible. There are only so many system configurations that we are able to test here at Epic, so we need the help of our thousands of users to let us know how well the editor runs on their system, and help us identify where problems may occur.

To achieve consistent and usable results, we require everyone who participates to be testing for the exact same thing. Please follow all of the steps below to run this test, and use the format that we provide to report the information back to us.

Thank you so much for your help!

PERFORMANCE TEST IN STARTERMAP

• Close as many background applications and browser tabs as possible.
• Launch your current Unreal Engine version to the Unreal Project Browser.
• Go to the New Project tab.
• Select the Blank template.
o Make sure the Include starter content checkbox is enabled
o Name it ‘‘PerfTest’’
o Click Create Project
• Your PerfTest project will automatically open to the Minimal_Default map.
• NOTE: For Mac users, please exit the Launcher. There is a known issue for where the Launcher has an impact on Editor performance.
• Go to: Edit > Editor Preferences > Miscellaneous. Enable ‘Show Frame Rate and Memory
o On Mac, you can find this under Unreal Editor > Preferences > Miscellaneous
o FPS and Memory stats should now appear near the top-right corner of the Editor.
• Close the Preferences window.
• Go to: File > Open Level > StarterMap.umap
o NOTE: If an editor pop-up appears and says that it will change your scalability settings due to low performance, allow it to make the change.
• Do not move the camera from the starting location (seen below).

70e6617d1e21bd44666e0d7013470f8bbaa6be8f.jpeg

• Note and write down your average FPS (“Editor Viewport FPS”)
• Choose the **Play > Selected Viewport **option.
• Do not move the camera from the starting location (seen below).

91fbd38b508a6e109b6b3d2f174abde176dc7891.jpeg

• In the text field in the upper-right corner of the editor, enter: stat fps and press Enter.
o FPS stats will display on the right side of the viewport
• Note and write down the average FPS (“Play in Viewport FPS”)
• Go to Quick Settings > Engine Scalability Settings. Make note of the Resolution Scale and each of the rendering settings. These will be included in your report.
• Test complete. You can close the Editor.

GET YOUR HARDWARE SPECS

• On Windows: Run dxdiag.exe, then click “Save All Information” and save the .txt file.
• On Mac: Go to the Apple Menu > About This Mac > More Info > System Report.
o Copy all the information on the Hardware Overview page EXCEPT for the Serial Number and Hardware UUID.
o Save as a .txt file.

REPORT YOUR RESULTS

• Click ‘Reply to Thread’ below.
• In the bottom-right corner, click on the Go Advanced button.
• Copy and paste the below text into the text box
