Offering Tips for Shadows not moving when using wind with foliage

There are a lot of older posts on this but I had to hunt down the solution since some of the older suggestions don’t totally work. And please correct me if I’m wrong on any of these points!!!

Key takeaways:

  • Raytracing doesn’t love to work with world position offset (in the material, for the wind to ‘work’) but it can
  • Nanite does NOT work — You may want to consider disabling nanite on import for these objects! (I’ve run into problems when disallowing nanite on the SM’s forces a lower quality LOD)

Can change these things to make this work.

On the mesh itself:

WPO in raytracing (you can enable this in the foliage painter, too!)

Nanite kills the effect:

This has to be done manually on the foliage instances. It’s annoying.

Unfortunately, disabling Nanite Support on the mesh asset itself doesn’t seem to disable Nanite in the viewport.

Any Epic Dev’s that may come across this - any plans for Nanite to look at WPO in the materials for the sake of shadows?
