[] Ocean surface simulation (VaOcean)

I’ve tried this one in 4.10 and 4.11, there is a lot of code to change/upgrade

Hey there

Just minor update. I’ve decided to polish the and turn it to the technical demo (FFT, custom shaders, etc.), instead of making whole ocean system.

Currently it works for UE 4.13, some refactoring is on schedule.

I know that this hasn’t been mentioned or updated in a long time… but any chance you are still working on this project?? It looked very promising and I was wanting to use it in 4.15.1

Hi Veteran, any chance for you to update the project ?
Look very good and i was wanting to use it in UE4 4.15

Has anyone managed to make this work on UE 4.17?

There is a project that took parts of this and a few other projects and put them all together. Its still being updated (There is a pull request for 4.19 update!)

Look here :
://forums.unrealengine.com/community/work-in-progress/17331-community-project-wip-weather-ocean-water-shader?42092-Community-Project-WIP-Weather-amp-Ocean-Water-Shader=

I don’t think the community project uses this at all - the community project uses gerstner waves and this one uses the far superior tessendorf waves, so this one looks like it’s from 2010+ and not 2005.

I think I will try to revive this project. I will try to fix it starting from version 4.17 and see how it looks like…

Let us know how it goes

Yes, please!

I gave it a 1st look and it will require quite a maintenance just to get rid of errors from deprecated API usage. I was doing other things for the launch of a new asset version and a new asset aswel and I will get back to this. In the mean time I am usually looking after answering questions for the Free Community Ocen Project. That one works fine already. This one I am not sure yet if it will have the info needed to implement the buoyancy, so maybe a major change will be needed aswel.

The only reason Im going after this one is to compare the performance, since Im going to need an Ocean for my game project.

Subscribed. If the result is a better looking and performing ocean, then I’ll look into merging it into the ocean project

The ongoing changes and discovery are being made here: ://forums.unrealengine.com/unreal-engine/marketplace/1437186-another-ocean-

There will be two outcomes from this as described:

  • If it has better performance than the WIP Community Ocean Project, I will give to it all the features mentioned in the thread above and make it a product for selling with lowest possible price
  • If it has no better performance, it will not become a product and will be given for free by sharing my changes with EvoPulseGaming and he will decide if he will kept those as he wants to merge both oceans anyway (it depends on implementing all the WIP Ocean features)

The outcome will be that everyone will have an ocean alternative to the WIP Ocean and which is not Gerstner method but Tessendorf with FFT.
