Nvidia Apex Required For Clothing Animation?

Hey everyone I’m curious if there’s a way to make clothing animate in UE4 without Apex. It’s totally annoying to have to learn to use that thing and no I don’t and won’t try to buy overpriced software like Autodesk. So is it possible to animate clothing for my DAZ character in UE4 with either Blueprint or even C++? I’m somewhat knew to programming but I’m willing to try. I truly don’t want to frustrate myself any longer with Apex Clothing Tool to simulate a mere cape that my character has on his back. Any help will be appreciated.

You may find it frustrating, but it will be a heck of a lot less frustrating then spending a week trying to code it with C++

@ Here is a basic apex tutorial:

You do not have to have Autodesk to use Apex Cloth. You can sign up through Developer.Nvidia for FREE to download their tool set.

If you want to do destructibles at any point I would recommend the PhysX Lab which is a standalone app to do this.

For Apex Cloth you need to download the PhysX: Apex SDK 1.3.1. In this you will find the application “Clothing Tool” which you can use to get your weighting right for your imported assets.

GeoDav’s Blender to UE4 Cloth tutorial.

Thanks guys I’ll have to be more patient with Apex especially since I can’t afford Autodesk software. By the way I assume no one here has used DAZ Genesis with Apex before because that’s what I’m trying to do. I design the character in DAZ Studio, export it as an FBX file, import it to Reallusion 3dXchange Pipeline, and export as FBX to UE4 from there. It works perfectly like it did in UDK. I’m just having trouble with adding clothing simulation to the cape my Genesis character is wearing. I still not sure how to use the darn thing as a standalone without anything having to do with 3dsMax or Maya. The tutorials on youtube are always about Autodesk when it comes to stuff like this and the tutorial of Blender doesn’t do much good for me for I don’t use Blender with DAZ Genesis for the two of them don’t work well together and yet Makehuman works perfectly with Blender despite Makehuman is not 50% has powerful or useful as DAZ Studio in my opinion. So any idea of how to follow along the manual of Apex that came with it by the way? Because I’ve had Apex for a couple of days now when I joined nVidia Gameworks Program and I’m quite unsure of how to use it with DAZ. There is a way isn’t it?

Hi ,
i now working inside the pipeline of iclone and unreal engine. and i simulate my cloth with apex cloth tool checked that you can see inside the folder bin/32 inside your nvidia apex installation.
it work perfectly.

Now i figure out to let my cloth simulate from matinee on cutscene. My problem is that my cloth work but only inside game mode.

So if you have a way to simulate the apex cloth inside matinee feel free to help please.

thank’s a lot

Hey dude, what is the purpose of your matinee? because I’m pretty sure there are lots of things that will not run while you putting it together in matinee. But if it’s a matinee that is activated in game while playing, or if you are rendering it as a movie, then it should run exactly the same as if the game was simulating, when you get to that stage.
