Since 5.1.0 came out I have had numerous problems installing the new build, much less running it. The first time I attempted to, I had to pause the download several times, because the installation process would simply hang. Other downloads were unaffected, so I have ruled out an internet issue. When the install did finally complete, I was able to run it once, but the next day the file path disconnected, although it was still on my hard drive - however, since there is no manual “verify install” option for the Epic Games Launcher, there is no way to reconnect any installation.
Then today, I decided to uninstall 5.1.0 and try to download it afresh, where I have received the error, “a file path must not exceed 250 characters”… the install location is only 46 characters long!
I do have enough space for 5.1.0 but, for whatever reason, either the build does not appear to be stable, or the launcher requires an update. I have also used UE 5.0.3 without incident, so would be interested if others have experienced these issues. I shall appreciate it if Epic Games can assist.
Hey there @Hyncharas! Sorry about that, it sounds like there’s been a recent uptick in issues with installation. So many nested folders could have possibly tripped the 250 character limit. The engines nesting produces 118 characters at it’s deepest level on its own iirc, so it shouldn’t be causing the character error normally.
The path had been disconnected originally? It sounds a bit like it’s register was shifted after it’s original installation, which is quite odd to say the least.
Could you take a look into the folder it’s installing to to verify the uninstallation completed correctly?
I have purged leftover files from the last install, and shortened the file path. It seems to be downloading properly. However, I won’t know if it working until the reinstall is complete.
Understandable! Please let me know how it goes! Worse case scenario and you’re needing to work in deeply nested drives, I can also help you remove that problem from windows in general but it requires registry edits so it’s one of those “Only if 100% needed” deals.
