Now Clicking on assets will crash to fab!

In Epic Launcher, Clicked here :

Showing this!

Gee! Thanks! We needed more generic error messages in Epic Launcher. Please ask the person who implemented this to take a few step away from the keyboard :joy:

Take me home button doesn’t do anything either, and I could only use Ctrl-Left-Arrow to go back to Launcher screen!

At least, give me a choice to choose where to open links! I want to see them in browser! Someone in EPIC thought it is much more user friendly if they embed a web browser into Epic launcher and disable it’s right click too forcing all links open in that embeded browser!

@BSarmady are you still seeing this “Something went wrong..” message, and is it occurring for all items or just this one?

Can you also help us better understand what your workflow looks like when opening links in browser. For example, are you trying to share the url with teammates? Also, curious why you’re still using the Fab library under Unreal Engine instead of the one inside Fab. Are there specific features in the old Library that make it more useful for you?

The reason we currently open links inside the Launcher is so you can jump straight into downloading/exporting content without having to switch contexts. That said, having an option to open in your default browser makes sense.

Hi there, thank you for reply.

  1. Yes it happens for all links that were supposed to open in FAB. Those that would open UnrealMarket (Old UE4 assets) are still fine, since they still open in browser.
  2. Well, I can’t help you more than this, there is no JavaScript console in your embedded browser so I can’t see what is going wrong. It is definitely a JavaScript issue since, the first asset that I click, for a few second blinks into fab asset page then shows the error and after that every asset that I click immediately shows the error. Note that if I click on Fab Tab, it loads correctly and I can see the assets only if I click on them inside the tab, but again if I navigate to library tab and click on an asset which navigates to FAB tab, it crashes.
  • With click on asset and open the link in browser, It’s not just sharing it with team. There are more reasons to do that. You could add a right click menu to choose if user want to open in browser or in Epic Launcher and keep default behavior for clicking on the link (apply for all links). The other reasons are looking at the images of products in full screen 4K 32” screen instead of 1/5th of screen size in fab Tab and in a 1.8cm by 1cm Icon size of Fab Library. I’m also able to middle click an asset to open it in multiple tabs and keep them all open at once while working with them. This was never possible in any embedded browser.

  • One reason would be to share the link with team, or support (email, form, …) and others would be to add it to a cart with items that is open in browser containing Items to purchase.

  • I Use Fab Library Under Unreal Engine, because you still refuse to migrate old assets to FAB and some users did not migrate their assets to FAB either. I still need my paid UE4 and MarketPlace assets. I believe that’s the only place that currently shows all the assets I own (including Quixel), The other reasons would be it’s search is instant, it only search my items and not entire Fab including assets that I do not own and It works offline!

  • Old Library is a disaster itself, for example, size of asset picture, image cache in OS drive, Long load time, but there are few things that I can do with it. Search by name which is 100% better than crazy search in FAB, Cache in Vault, and instant install from Vault to project (this last one is not working anymore since 3 version ago).

  • Fab Doesn’t Straight jump to download, it show a lot of information that I do not need, for example the assets that I do not own! and it is slow. It also doesn’t have an Export, downloading a Unreal file into an Unreal project is not Export.

  • What happens in this screenshot is not any easier than using the FAB plugin inside UE Editor or even the Library under Unreal Tab of Epic Launcher.

I’m sorry, Epic Launcher become really frustrating. I’m not sure where do you obtain your user feedback to modify the Launcher. but it is definitely not the way I would like to use the Launcher.
