Not able to line up with grid

Some things are just too bothersome to do manually, but selecting a bunch of nodes and hitting a single key (Alignment → Straighten Connections) produces this:

So this, and align left are the ones that I seem to use the most. Give it a go.

This is something that was discussed in the forums before and Epic did fix a number of issues (it used to be much, much, much more chaotic 2 years ago); still, I do agree it’s by no means perfect.

I find it somewhat unlikely this will ever be perfected, hence my suggestion.

Hello, I have used a very old editor before and the grid there was very precise and powerful (Hammmer Editor), When I started with UE4 it was horrible to work with this grid nothings is lining up how I want and it looks like there are some bugs. I will Upload a Video on YouTube maybe anyone can see what I’m doing wrong here and why objects don’T line up with my grid. Thank you

and here a Video how excellent it works in the Hammer Editor

Can anyone explain to me why a 16 Year old Editor makes this better than UE4 ? Or did I miss something? Thank you

Perhaps the reason is that the nodes are dynamic and come in many sizes; pins are inconsistently placed, true.

  1. Adjust the grid snap settings in the options (default is 16px, I believe)
  2. You can keybind node alignment

It’s far from perfect out of the box, bothers some people. Has no impact on the actual workflow, it’s mostly in your head. The sooner you realise it, the better.

It bothered me, too. What I did, I disabled the grid all together and woooosh, all the worries are gone… (essentially, you do not notice misalignment so much…) On top of that, I’m using keybindings to align nodes now, it became second nature after a couple of days.

Sorry but I don’t understand the answer, If you mean the Grid snap value I have already tried every sitze with same result.

Yup, it will never be perfect, try keybinding node alignment.

Ok Thank you for your Help, sometimes new editors can learn somethign from old Software.

Thank you very much! I will try it!
