I think you have asked this question before. Double-clicking is not implemented in the UI of RC.
It seems like you have changed the viewports, because by default the top left window has a blue marker. This is the viewport that the image that you select with the left mouse button will be displayed. The marker is missing in your screenshot. You can either restore to factory settings or manually attribute it to the viewport. How to do that is covered in the help - I don’t remember now. Maybe ctrl+1 and clicking the window or something…
When I restored the view (thanks, Ctrl + 1 was right), it worked again.
I have no clue what the difference between the view with the blue marker and without it does, but now when I click an image in the 1D view, it shows up in this view again.
The markers are just a quick way of defining different viewports. There are 4, which work in the same way as the blue one (only with 2, 3 and 4). If you then press one of the numbers while selecting any input (2D or 3D), it will be displayed in the corresponding view. Quite handy.
the default color is blue, therefore when you click on an image in 1Ds it is automatically marked as blue and will be displayed in a 2D view marked as blue. When your 2D view has no assigned color, clicking on an image in 1Ds will not lead to displaying this image in unmarked view. You can drag and drop it to this view and by clicking on left and right arrow keys, you can run through all images.
@Götz I think you cannot see the original message because it was edited.
@Alice It is not possible to show multiple images in single 2D view, therefore you can have only one image assigned to one specific color cursor. You can only display all images in 2Ds view (2Ds can be displayed only in the left-most view in 1 + layouts). You can find more information in the application Help -> Get Familiar with the Application Basic -> View Types
