I love 2D games and there is always some animated 2D thingy I want to do regardless whether the game is 2D/3D, so would love the official implementation of all the UE5 2D tools so we can make 2D content without hacks and (very) repetitive tasks (sequencer I am looking at you).
Anything detailed in the first part of this video would go long way for performance too because I assume that swapping materials in runtime is probably more expensive than the flipbook itself.
Also in this video, I noticed he doesn’t convert to paper2D settings when he imports textures, but we have to do that otherwise or all textures will look blurry.
Careful not to remove the ability to do that, because then it will get even more tedious to manually swap compression settings for each asset (mainly writing this since I 've heard a couple of times that the paper2D workflow is deprecated, but this setting is super important).
