just as the title says I’m looking for some help with character creation/skinning I looked around and found some videos about skeleton and pivot motion of characters but not so much with actual creation of characters.
I’m doing a small personal project and would appreciate any and all input to help because even in engine I could only find pre-made assets and assistance with weapons , vehicles and levels but not people/characters.
so anyone out there willing to help a noob out ?
Wait what. What are you actually asking for, tutorials for character modeling and rigging? For what software? Youll find pretty much anything on youtube these days.
I will personally suggest spending $30 a month, for a month or two, and learn from the tutorials on Pluralsight. That will get your your ground level basics to advanced and you’ll have a good start to make your own from scratch.
The general process to create a full functional character is the following:
- Sculpt Your Character (ZBrush)
- Retopologize your Character into a Low Poly Version (Maya, Max, Blender, etc)
- Rig your Character
- UVW Map your Low Poly (Maya, Max, Blender, etc)
- Bake your High Poly into your Low Poly (XNormal, Substance, Quixel)
- Texture/Skin your Character (Substance, Quixel)
- Export Textures
- Import your Character (Unity/Unreal/CryEngine)
- Set up your Character Script/Blueprint (Unity/Unreal/CryEngine)
As you can see, it’s a lengthy process for a newbie, I suggest taking it step by step through tutorials and learn the basics.
