niagara instead of cascade, april 2024?

I’ve been reading a handful of reddit threads and posts here, and I’m trying to figure out if Cascade is worth learning at all as of April 2024, since I saw an Unreal 5.0 link that said Cascade was going to be deprecated and removed in a later release.

I’ve seen some threads from a few years ago where users claim that Cascade can do some things a little bit faster, especially for simpler VFX systems? (I’m planning on making simple systems but I don’t want to waste time learning Cascade if Epic is going to remove it later)

Am I wasting my time with Cascade? Should I just go with Niagara and never look back?

extra info: my pre-optimization brain-rot makes me want to understand why some people believe Cascade to be faster (has less features than niagara? idk)

I recall when Niagara first released in beta Cascade was minorly faster than Niagara particles in extremely simple use cases, though since beta Niagara has changed and become more performant and robust in the process. That said, this is more likely over thinking, as the difference, even back then was negligible if you’re following good optimization guidelines. Though if you do have a particle heavy game, it might be worth stress testing. That said, I don’t believe there is a specific date slated for deprecation of Cascade, but it is definitely on the path to deprecation so if you intend to upgrade your project going forward there may be concern.
