Nexus (Hover bike riding, Open World, Puzzle Game

Hey! We are a group of five Second year Games art students at the University of Hertfordshire and Have been creating a little game over the past few months called Nexus.

https://vimeo./165365553

The character of the game has scavenged and repaired a broken little robot who springs to life at the start of the game. The little robot is grateful but must find a way home and so, the two set off on their voyage.

In the game you will play as the scavenger character who, using their trusty hover bike, will traverse the vast desert landscape to aid the little robot’s wish to return home. There are hidden artefacts, Keystones, within the desert which hold the power to unlock the path that leads to the robot’s home. To retrieve these Keystones however, the player must solve a series of puzzles deep within ancient ruins scattered throughout the desert.

This looks beautiful, albeit a bit rough around the edges as well.

But still, I can see that there is a lot of heart in the game and can really respect that  Keep up the good work!!

Thanks a lot ! We appreciate the compliment! Could you also possibly elaborate on what you think is rough? Thanks!

Sure! Although everything I am about to bring up I am sure you all know about and plan on updating.

First off is the animation, it’s very basic, but I am sure it is just temp for now!

Secondly is the usage of the ‘default’ unreal text in some UI elements. The companion robot’s thumbnail probably needs a boarder of some sort.

Also the scene with the bridge coming out of the needs some particle effects to show that is being shifted around as they rise, instead of clipping through the floor.

Like I said, I am sure you all know of these things already. And I don’t want to sound too negative, there are a lot of great things as well, like the cloth simulation, speeder bike controls, and more!

No no you don’t sound negative at all! You’re right in the fact that we are aware of some of the things you mentioned already but thanks a lot for the crit anyway! We are already working on some fixes and hopefully should be updating soon!

Gorgeous game! I really like the world’s style and color. The walk animation doesn’t quite match up to the movement speed, but that’s a minor thing to fix. Keep us posted with more updates! I’m excited to see where this goes!

Thanks for all the lovely comments it means a lot! We’re currently working hard to get the game looking as pretty as possible (as well as making it as playable as possible) for an end-of-Year Film Show, at our University, that this project has been short-listed in. The Trailer that we submit for that show will definitely be posted here, but for now, Here’s a night time screen shot

So due to third year priority the game didn’t make it through to the final selection for film day but here is the trailer we created for it!

We’ve also entered The Rookies competition if you’d like to check out our page:

The art style is gorgeous!

Do you plan on making this a commercial release? It definitely has appeal, and I’m sure some people would buy it.

Thanks a lot!

The game in it’s current state would need much more work until it is at a stage where it could be sold, in my personal opinion. As well as the fact that we are all still students, about to enter our third and final year, unfortunately we would not have much time to work on it due to upcoming Uni projects. There is a good we may revisit it in the future however, and improvements may be made over this summer, which we’ll definitely post about on here

Are you somehow the developer of the game SABLE? Or did they just copy your work?
