next step in RC?

I am currently working on an ammunition box with Reality Capture demo. I have manage to align 395 images using manual control points and have done a reconstruction in normal detail. I have only textured this without any fancy procedure. I did however simplify the triangles with the simplify tool.

In real life the ammo box has a smooth flat surface with sharp edges, a rectangular shaped box. But the reconstructed version has a very granular surface. What is the next step in RC to make the surface as smooth and as flat as the original object?

For the record, the final goal is to print the object using 3D print, so I am only interested in the shape, not the colour graphics. Hope you can help me on my way.

regards,

Youri

hello, I would go for the smoothing tool - you can find it in the Reconstruction tab

If the surfaces are shiny and/or reflective and/or of a single colour without any details (a.k.a. featureless) then this is the best result you can hope for.

There are a number of techniques you can apply to improve your results.

Project a random pattern on the surface to name one.
