"Newest" sorting option as the default view for assets

Hello everyone,

I’d like to propose bringing back the “Newest” sorting option as the default view for assets on the Fab. Previously, this setup allowed new assets to get immediate visibility, giving creators a fair chance to showcase their latest work without getting buried under older listings.

From a seller’s perspective, this significantly impacted sales, as fresh content naturally attracted more attention right after release. For buyers, it offered a great way to discover new trends, tools, and creative solutions right as they hit the market.

The current system makes it harder for new assets to gain momentum, reducing discoverability for fresh content and potentially limiting the diversity of tools available to developers. Restoring the “Newest” default sorting would not only help sellers but also enrich the overall marketplace experience by ensuring constant exposure to new ideas and innovations.

Yea and no
Now any new asset will be drowned in AI crap and 1-mesh assets. The old Marketplace never had so much crap every day either, there were good rules that kept low-quality “creators” out

It would be better to rename SMARTASSETS to Assets from Marketplace, and all the AI crap and garbage from SketchFab would fly away into the 3D model)). Otherwise it is not clear where the good assets are and where the nonsense is. How is a person supposed to understand what a smart asset is? It is simply a terrible name for models.

A potential buyer visits the FAB website every day and sees the same thing. The default sorting “newbies first” would give more interest to buyers and sellers. Why don’t the products in the existing “relevance” sorting change at all? Change those products there at least once a week, ideally change products every couple of days. Most of the products in the existing selection are products with inflated ratings.
