Hello Unreal Community First time posting but wanted to introduce myself and pose a broader question I’m hoping the community can weigh in on -
My name is Kevin, I’m a video generalist(?) with about 10 years of professional in-house experience leading creative teams and working with external clients. My background is heavily in cinematography, editing, & branded video work. Over the last few months I’ve taken a sharp interest in 3D asset creation and am exploring what’s possible in XR/MR. I’m currently enrolled in NYU’s Mixed Reality Filmmaking course to learn the intricacies of Virtual Production, but I find myself getting lost in the limitless possibilities of UE5, particularly when it comes to basic 3D design and principles. All to say, I feel like I was destined to find this program when I did at this particular point in my life. I’m heavily weighing the options of continuing down this in-house video role where I’m doing more management, or trying to explore something new or even do something maybe on my own.
I would love to hear from others in the industry about what type of work is available for someone with a background like this. The thought of CGI commercial work and mixed reality storytelling is definitely intriguing. I want to stay in the production world, and not necessarily in video game development. I recently bought a PC and am fully viewing this as a multi-year transition, but one that I am beyond excited about that feels like I’m going through some type of creative rebirth (lol, but really)
Any thought here would be greatly appreciated!
