hello is this any good for UE5 and VR, mainly architecture
GPU 3080 or should i go AMD xtx7900 (I am afraid UE5 doesnt support raytrace with this card, UE had problems in past with AMD)
CPU r9 7900x or went with Intel???
Noctua cooler
motherboard msix670p
ram corsaire 2x32
hdd 4tb for storage or is it better to use 2x2 TB and put in some mode
SSD 960 evo 500 GB m.2. do i need better I have this in desk 2 years waiting
PS 850W
some case I dont know something cheap
I am looking at pico4 or quest 3, what would you recommend for VR?
Thanks guys
If by “HDD” you mean spinning rust, please get an SSD instead.
RTX 3080 is good; I would not go with AMD GPUs.
r9 7900x is good; the modern Intels are big/LITTLE chips which have weird performance problems in some cases.
64 GB RAM is enough, but no more – you might need more if your GPU has lots of RAM and your project is big.
Power supply seems big enough; try to get Gold or Platinum rated for not generating too much extra heat.
512 GB boot disk (M.2) is probably not big enough for long term, but might be enough to get going. You’ll probably want to put your projects and download cache and such on the external SSD/second-M.2 if this is your boot disk.
Approaching fanboy territory here… but +1 for Nvidia GPUs. (They just seem better supported driver-wise)
I’d get a 1TB SSD instead of 500GB. I have a 1TB m.2 SSD and with 3 versions of UE installed on it (cuz speed) (4.26, 5.0 , 5.1) and not much else it’s half way full.
HDDs (spinning rust) are still hard to beat for price to storage ratio. (Just be sure to get one that spins at 7k)
Can’t blame you for cheaping out on case. (It’s just a metal box to hold components right…?) But if you can get a good one. (With thick sound-deadening panels) It could last you a long time. (Shoutout to my p180b currently on it’s third motherboard)
HDD spinning rust is just for storage nothing else they are far more reliable than SDD, that might stop working or die and you are screwed on the other hand on hdd is really good chance in worst conditions to get back at least 90% of data. But anyway I am thinking now on 2 ssd and one hdd.
Biggest debatie is about graphic card Radeon 7900 or rtx 3080, as far as I see everybody have tendency to rtx nvidia cards. But these new AMD series have really big speed and they are compared with RTX 4000 series. But driver problems in the past with AMD and Unreal Engine is pusing me in direction of RTX 3080. If somebody from Epic can tell me that new AMD is fine now I would go AMD
As the case, I have 12 years old case that bought for 50$ and its fine. I would do same again. And when I find some time I want to build custom wooden case, but I found out that I have to have metal backplate because of short circuit etc. So that is the reason I dont want to spend on metal rustic box my money custom keyboard is must also
