Hello,
I like the unreal engine online learning site that we have before, it was so nice, the badge will encourage users to watch the learning path and so on. and some challenges like blueprint ninja were awesome.
and About this new site, I like that we can share our work, like Blenderartists. It helps artists grow a name. maybe future artwork from here can help like Blenderartsits. future work can be shown on the official site of unreal or Twinmotion, etc, or shown on different social media of epic games like Benderartists that do this.
I hope we can have the old advantages with new advantages together.
I also liked the old version of the unreal engine online learning site, that option was more understandable, simple, visual, it was possible to understand it faster. I understand Epic’s desire to gather its entire community in one place, but for me the last option was more convenient.
I think many students will soon forget the old design and get used to the new one, but I don’t think that the new version of this section will be changed much.
Examples:
in the old version, on the courses page, you could immediately see the author, discussions and course evaluations. I found the authors of the courses on Twitter several times and wrote them a message asking them to tell me where to find more information and literature on their lectures. In the discussion and assessments, it was possible to understand that the mistake that happened to you during the course was the same for other people,
but the most important thing for me personally, in the old version there were test tasks, there was a way to test yourself and understand where you made a mistake, in which question you did not understand the material well enough and where you still need to study the material and practice again!
In the new version, I really like the transcript of the video. I am not a native English speaker and sometimes the lecturers of the courses accelerated very much by talking quickly, sometimes I had to turn on subtitles and rewind the moments several times to accurately understand the meaning… now this does not happen.
But I still have a feeling that Epic does not feel the direction in which it is necessary to develop educational courses.
Now I have opened the course page “Introduction To Lumen Essentials” by Epic Games, there are 4,586 views and 3 likes. It looks not alive.
I am absolutely sure that Epic training lacks two fundamental things: a large, competent WiKi with hundreds of links to material from the article and high-quality tests so that the student understands at what level he is!
I think it would be interesting to see how much your classes and professional skills are inferior to such masters as Mark Flanagan (Education Partner Manager EMEA Region Epic Games (GBR)), how much worse you are than him.
I think that the new site is good but I did receive an email today announcing that the EOL is closing this August and I have some problems with this because the new way to search courses is just bad.
They need a new way to categorize the tutorials and courses, we need categories like AI, Gameplay, etc
They need to separate or give more filter tools for the tutorials and courses, if they plan to keep the epic courses on the same section than the community courses they need to give us a filter that let us only select “Community” or “Epic”, but i think is going to be better to just treat them as two individual categories.
