Hello everyone! I just finished my diorama project a few days ago and I am already onto something new. This time I am going to aim a little bit bigger and go for a full environment based on the Ha-Long bay in Vietnam, this week I have done a basic blocking and modular system for the houses in the environment as well as some boats for ambience. This week i would like to finish my blocking and maybe, if i have time to detail the assets in the scene. Hope you like it!
HA-LONG BAY WEEK 2
Hello everyone!
This week i have been working on fine tuning the assets in my project, I have my final geometries ready, and the modular system has UVS. I also did a very barebones and basic texturing of the modular system using tileable textures. This week I aim to keep working on UVS, for the boats and other assets in the scene. And if I have time, try and start texturing them too. Lets see how it goes!
HA-LONG BAY WEEK 3
Hello everyone, this week i have been working on the final deails of the blocking and giving the modular system a first pass of textures. I created a master material that allows me to change the color of downloaded textures by color masks, this is really useful for things like painted wood because you can obtain multiple colored paint without affecting the base wood underneath, I also used this material for the floating barrels and rooftops. this week I aim to start working on the mountains surrounding the scene. I hope you like it!
HA-LONG BAY WEEK 4
Hello everyone! this week i have been doing foliage for my project, and it has not been easy. The amount of performance and looks problems I have had is impressive, and yet, I am still not happy with the result, I would really appreciate any adbice on how to make it look better or if there is a way to put foliage without taking my PC to its limit. In the other hand, I am begening to do a little bit of set dressing for the scene and trying to figure out the vibe as a whole, i still have much to do in this department but at least the scene is not as empty now. I also wanted to do a first ilumiantion pass fr the scene, but didn’t like the result so I left it as it was. This week i would like to take a brak of the foliage and texture the boats. Anyway nad as always, here is a little picture of the project right now.
Hope you like it!
HA LONG BAY WEEK 5
Hello everyone!
This week I advanced a little more on texture work, I did a first pass on the Boats and rafts and adjusted the scene illumination a little bit. I am having some problems with the normal maps of the boats, it’s like they are not capturing the soft and hard edges correctly and that is something I am going to start working on this week. I also did some modeling for minor assets like masts and sticks in general, also oars for set dressing. I would still be missing some hammocks and nets but I do that later on. Because of a trip I have scheduled for this week I will not be able to work as much But at least I hope I can finish with the boat textures at least.
Hope you like it!
Hello everyone! I have been working on some more setdressing assets that I made myself like ropes and antennas. Most of them are still in progress and I am figuring out the best way to implement them in the scene. I aslo did some color and lighting adjustments to the scene to make more vibrant and colourful. This week I aim to create some color masks for my boats, finish my setdressing assets, and see if I can start replacing the downloaded barrels and boxes for handmade ones. I think this will set me on track to wrap up this project correctly. I still have much to do but I am slowly seeing everytning come together.
Hope you like it!
HA LONG BAY WEEK 7
Hello everyone! this week I have done a lot of changes in my project. First of all I replaced the old mountains for new ones, they are still very rough but i cant find a way to make my vertex painting material work, I hope I can fix it this week. Second of all I adjusted the saturation and lighting on my scene, and configured my boat textures so they can change colours. I also replaced a lot of downloaded assets for handmade ones, did uvs, textured and implemented them in the project. This week I aim to convert some asset groups into blueprints, give a first pass to the new mountains textures, and continue wit the set dressing. This week I finally feel like I am in a solid spot, a solid foundation to keep working from here on, and I can also invest more time in adding new stuff insted of fixing the old one. I hope you like it!
HA LONG BAY WEEK 8
Hello everyone!
This week I have made a lot of advancements with the project. I fianlly fixed the mountains and scene Illumination. I modeled a new crane ( not yet implemented) and a Lighthouse that can be seen in the rocks outside of the environment. I did some meore set dressing by adding some nets, tents and tarps, and now the scene looks a llt more alive. I also fixed the collisions and now you can walk freely through the scene. The las thing I changed was the water material I downloaded a new one from Fab and It looks a lot better. This week I aim to finish my crane model and tweak the setdressing a little bit more, I would also like to implement some particles like fish, birds, leaves or maybe rain.
Hope you like it!
HA LONG BAY WEEK 9
Hello everyone! this week I was a sick so I could not do as much as more as I wanted to. However, I still managed to finish modeling and texturing the crane I was working on last week. I had some problems with my vertext painting material that I want to fix this week, as well as do some fine tunning on lighting and atmosphere. One last thing I would like to do for this week, is to add some particles to my scene now that everything else is looking as I wanted to. We are now on the final weeks for this project so I expect updates to be a little smaller from now on. Hope you like it!
Great work, I’m Tuong from Vietnam and I’m making a beat em up game. If you interested, lets connect.

HA LONG BAY WEEK 10
Hello everyone! This week I have been doing some changes to my project. Mainly, I added some wind simulation through the simple grass wind node in the materials where I needed things to be affected by wind, mainly cloths and nets. On the other side I changed the ilumination once again so the fog looked a little less gloomy and dark, but still keeping that cloudy, rainy day vibe I was going for. This week I aim to finally add a couple of particles to my scene and then then I will move on to the final details and touches to the project.
Hope you like it
Hi there @Lugia1909,
Hope you’re well and having a great week so far
I know I’m late to this thread but I just wanted to hop in and say this looks phenomenal so far. Especially that water - its so dreamy I look forward to seeing that next update!
Hello @PresumptivePanda I am really glad you like the project and you are always great support! thanks for your words and I hope you have an amazing week.
HA LONG BAY WEEK 11
Hello everyone!
This is my second to last update from this project so I am really wrapping up things now. This week I re configured the scene cameras because they had the wrong focus distance and depth of field did not work properly. I also fixed some post processing errors and optimized the scene so it runs better.
This week I will do the final adjustments and fixes that my scene may need but I would say now it is pretty much done. I hope you like the new cameras and see you next week for the final update!!
