New PC to UE5

Hi, I’d like to assemble my first computer. I’m a noob and would like to use my computer to learn UE5, create maps in this engine and play games. I don’t know what processor + graphics card would be best for my requirements. Mainly I’m wondering about the rtx4070ti or used 3090 graphics card and I don’t know what processor would be appropriate, I was wondering about the Intel i7-12700kf. Could someone advise me and tell me if it makes any sense and help me choose some elements that are also important, type of ram, motherboard, etc.?

Hi MxxnBoiiCA,

A 12th gen i7 like the 12700kf is perfect, tie in with a good 690 MotherBoard and if you can 64MB of DDR4 or DDR5 RAM (DD5 RAM hasn’t reached it’s potential yet and is more expensive).

If you’re wanting to go with the top-end card, you’ll need a 1000 watt power supply or higher, and will need to consider fire risks and your power usage. A 3080 or 3090 will keep you future proofed for quite some time…

Kingston FURY 64GB (2x32GB) 3200MHz CL16 Beast Black, ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4 will this ram and mobo be suitable?
You propose 3080 and 3090, so you think that 4070ti is worse or not worth buying?

Yes that sounds like a good combo.

If I was getting hardware, I’d wait for the 2nd generation of the latest tech as it’s more bug free, less prone to overheat, uses less power etc - the 4070ti does look like an awesome card though.

If you’re writing games - it can be too easy to make it smooth on a higher end card and then it runs like a dog on lesser hardware.

Getting something mid-range forces you to put the effort in right from the beginning to make sure it runs smoothly.

So do you think a used 3090 will be a good choice? and wait a year on it and replace it with something from the 40x0ti model? or even wait until 50x0?
Should I just add about $200 now to buy a 4070ti although I’m still worried about the amount of 12GB vram and from what I’ve read even now more demanding games can already use 10gb.

Yeah memory is the main thing - if you want to play games at max settings and download hires texture sets then 24gig would be perfect.

Even in Unreal you’ll have a much better experience with 24gig.

There’s still a lot of cards out there with only 8gig though, so when developing games it can pay to have less VRAM to force good texture usage.

I think that kind of decision depends on how many hours you’ll be gaming…

Thank you for your answer. As for memory, what SSD would be a good choice? and what parts should i pay attention to?

You’re welcome!

Try and get a 1TB or even 2TB Gen4 M.2 - the faster you can afford the better - look for something over 6000MB/s.
And if you can, get a separate one for Windows.

Thank you very much for your answers. Now I guess I know what to do
