New "Outfit Asset" for metahumans in Unreal 5.6

Hi all,

Has anyone been able to edit the new “Outfit Asset” that is in Unreal Engine 5.6?

It seems that these outfits are part of the new Parametric Body system for MetaHumans, and they are able to “Auto-Resize” to different bodies.
I’m pretty sure, right now, there’s no details on how we can make these - correct?
It’s an exciting step forward for clothing in Unreal though! Can’t wait to be able to create and edit clothing and have them auto-fit characters.

btw this is the only reference to the new “Outfit Asset” for Unreal 5.6 that I can find online - from the Epic public roadmap.

I managed to get it working and did an overview of what I learned, unfortunately the process was too buggy for me to make a full tutorial but the end result was ok https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ja5PjHVX6hA&t

Okay, hold on. So you are telling me I need to make at least 6 versions of the same shirt, for all the body types for it to work propperly?

In the preview for ue5.6 yes, but now the process is automated if you are using clothing for old metahuman bodies, if you are creating new clothing you can match it to 1 of the new metahuman body templates available for free on fab, the rest of the process is automated. I cover the process of doing it with existing metahuman clothing within 10 minutes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NxEzdr7T7E

That’s fantastic @I_Create_Art - yes I watched your video (Relentless Games). I also watched the great videos by Nova Effectus on the subject. Very helpful.

I’m hoping the official documentation will come out soon.

There is this, released on June 13 2025 - which is helpful, but I found it very dense and confusing, because I’m a bit of a dumb dumb to be honest lol. I’m a filmmaker / cinematics guy, so I find it difficult to get my head around some of the terminology:
