i´d just like to introduce myself to the community.
i am a freelance artist with some years of experience and would like to learn UE for my personal needs. its all a bit overwhelming but i hope to stick to it.
as with any software i am mostly learning by fiddling around and following some tutorials.
my first stumbling block is importing fbx from 3ds max.
trying to change the mannequin with a slightly modified mannequin model (moving around some vertices) invariably crashes UE and i do not know how to get around it.
i tried many different fbx options always with the same result.
the fbx 2013 and 2014/2015 produce a crash.
i have exported the char as fbx, moved a couple of vertices underneath the skin modifier, and exported the model with and without triangulation.
if there is no polycount changes it usually does but even a just plain reimporting a clean mesh crashes aswell.
împorting fbx from other software did not produce a crash.
i hope i can bump this up.
has anyone managed to export fbx from max 2016?
apparently the recommended exporter 2014 version is now called 2014/2015, and it definitely does not work on my end.
do i really need to revert back to max 2015?
please someone let me know if they got this working.
if trying the “reimport mesh” option it always produces a crash.
if i just try to import the mesh from the asset browser i get a “multiple root error”. no matter which options i chose.
plain meshes without bones work though as expected.
for testing purposes, i have tried fbx from akeytsu, zbrush, houdini, blender. all have different issues but none crash the UE.
can you perhaps point me to a link with the fbx export options or maybe provide a screengrab of your options?
so you are using the fbx to import animated meshes from max2016?
i am pretty sure the max exporter is broken. seems a couple of people are getting the multiple root error.
