I just released my first Fortnite map and I’m desperate — no one is seeing it.
Maybe I can show you my new island through you?
Map Code: 8388-7530-8741
I’d really appreciate any feedback or advice to understand what I’m doing wrong and why my island isn’t showing up anywhere.
I just played it, and I think it’s a really fun map.
As far as I know, one of the most important things for your map to be shown to many players is how much people play it in the first 12-24 hours after its release, so you should try to get as many players as possible to play it right after it gets published.
I gave the map a try as well, you obviously put in a lot of effort. I like the custom art and meshes, and the gloomy atmosphere looks great. Unfortunately, I had a hard time really following what I should be doing, other than keeping inside the storm and shooting the occasional monster/wildlife. I never made it to the mansion as I think I fell off a cliff or something and got stuck down there and gave up.
As a player I didn’t feel like I had much agency in what I could do, I felt more like I was on a rail shooter where I just needed to kill things as I was being guided along. If that was your intent great, but it wasn’t working for me in terms of fun. I know, I know…not want you want to hear but I feel like some honest feedback, even if it is negative, is more useful long term.
You mentioned this is your first map I think? It’s really polished for a first effort, and you should take pride in that. Keep refining this or try another idea, the only way to get better is to keep practicing. I know it’s incredibly disheartening to see no one playing your map (been there, done that, still there mostly) but if you think of these as practice on the road to something better maybe that will help. It’s a tough ecosystem to crack into and I don’t have any practical advice on how to get more exposure, but I do know that if you enjoy making these maps that’s what matters most, listen to your intrinsic motivation!
