Hello!
Being a member of the Epic Games community for over three months, this is my very first discussion post in the forum, and I’m thrilled to share the release of my very first map created in UEFN: Flag Swiper
!
But before I dive into that, I’d like to thank all the developers and staff at Epic for making an outstanding editor for Fortnite (UEFN), and a clear documentation that took the guesswork out of a ton of features included in my map. This couldn’t have been possible without the hard work of compiling all of Fortnite’s assets into an incredible editor and making it available for everyone to use.
Flag Swiper
, as I’ve said, is my very first map and I’m super excited to share it. It can be found in Fortnite in Discover by the title: Flag Swiper, creator: ATEP, or the island code: 8501-5179-9638. In this post, I’ll be sharing the gameplay features, island’s environment, special tricks and tips, and a step-by-step on how to find the Secret Rooms. In the future, I’m planning to make a tutorial on how to make a capture the flag (CTF) island through UEFN.
GAMEPLAY FEATURES:
Music + Sound Effects
One of the mechanics I’m very proud of is the music and sound effects. The island features two music pieces and five unique sound effects for different actions done during the game. (E.g. swiping the opponents flag, elimination)
All Weapons
Another aspect of the island is the diversity of weapons and loot. While remaining true to the OG weapons, the new weapons are also available at no cost. There is also a myriad of prop disguises and consumables too. Your loot is totally customizable and accessible from start to finish.
Building
Building is an indispensable element when it comes to Fortnite, and I was surprised at the number of CTF maps that didn’t include building. Because of this, I made sure that Flag Swiper
includes building. While there is a 500 resource limit, they replenish with each spawn. In the future, I’m hoping to make an unlimited build CTF map with a twist.
Persistence
Persistence is the technical term for things that save across game sessions, and a surprising amount of time has been spent making that feature work. Now, when a flag is swiped or you eliminate someone, it contributes to your existing score, and saves when you leave. Climb higher on the leaderboard because at the end of each game, the scoreboard is displayed to everyone.
Ready Up
As a fan of the Ready Up options available after each Battle Royale match, it’s been included in Flag Swiper
. After each game ends, a Ready Up option and a Return To Lobby option are conveniently available similar to the Battle Royale post-game.
Fast Action
No one likes to wait! Therefore, fast action is a necessity. This map is more condensed than your typical, but boasts lots of opportunities to hide and sneak around (not to mention build). As a result, combat is more frequent and flag swipes are more exciting.
Clarity
Finally, a number of maps are very creative and fun, but can be cluttered and sometimes confusing. I’ve done my best to make an uncluttered map and provide lots of pointers, game help, and messages. The weapons are uniformly arranged, and any unnecessary billboards are out of the way.
ENVIRONMENT + TERRAIN:
An important part of an island is an interactive environment and exciting terrain. Beginning this island, I was stumped on what its theme and design should be. I had several ideas in mind, but wasn’t sure which one to choose. Then I realized, I didn’t have to pick only one of them. Flag Swiper
contains varying districts from forest and tundra to grocery store and junkyard. This makes for a more unique experience as no two fights will be exactly the same. Also, to make a more authentic battlefield, things aren’t perfectly arranged in rows and columns; they’re crooked, misplaced, and sometimes messy. Moreover, you are not only limited to the districts on the ground; the battle can be elevated to the sniping platform. The sniping platform circles around the entire battlefield making
Flag Swiper
a two storied fight. I’ve included some pictures of the different districts, but there are some experiences that pictures just can’t accurately show.
TRICKS + TIPS
As a collaborating creator of the map, I’ve experimented with many tricks and tools to make a fun and wild experience. Some of these tricks came from ideas that didn’t work, other smacked me right in the face, and even others were totally accidental.
#1. Before swiping the opponents flag, treat yourself to a Super Slap Splash and a Banana of the Gods. Not only will you be the fastest person on the battlefield, you’ll jump the highest too.
#2. After swiping the opponent’s flag, sprint into their spawn room (the door automatically opens) and hop on the launch pad adjacent to the door. Then, glide from the sniping platform straight to your base to deliver the winning point.
#3. While building is disabled when holding the flag, you can still edit. While your friends are building, have those editing skills help you escape.
#4. Putting on a bush or cardboard box before swiping the opponent’s flag will allow you to hide in plain sight very effectively. Watch as the opposing team desperately searches for the thief that is staring at them in the face.
#5. This one requires a buddy. As your fleeing the crime scene with the flag, have your teammate throw a shockwave grenade to blast you to your base.
#6. When waiting for someone to swipe your flag, keep a lookout on the sniper platforms. The second you hear the blaring music, jump off the platform but don’t apply your glider immediately. Once you get close to the ground, apply it, and make that thief pay. They won’t know what hit them.
THE SECRET ROOMS UNVEILED:
Okay, okay, contrary to their name, the Secret Rooms can be found on the right side of the map on a blue and red wall by approaching the stack of covered pallets that form a very tiny maze. Simply mantle over them, and walk through the wall. If the wall happens to be solid, try the same thing on the other side. Inside you’ll find exclusive mythic loot and a chair, which when sat in, gives a very large XP reward.
To conclude, thank you for checking this post out, and I encourage you to check out the map (you won’t be disappointed), and please drop a like and favorite
. Any bugs or issues can be reported in this discussion here or through Fortnite—please be succinct. Also, any suggests are welcome, and I sincerely appreciate honest feedback (even critical). I’m hoping to add sneak-peeks for upcoming updates and a tutorial on how to make your own capture the flag map similar to this one soon. As always, thank you for your support and I hope to be back soon.
Keep on Creating,
ATEP
