new front end for materials suggestion


I’d really like a easy to use material creation system that lets me get to any material setup in a few minutes . i dont understand why creating a material has to be so complex - this image should be the interface for material creation - click the ball to get the type of material u want - literly like instananeous - click a button to add a texture to the slot - click another button to add an animation to texture or a noise to blend another texture to it . As an artist without the engineering mentality making the same materials over and over is incredibly time consuming for doing the same things - it should be a one click solution - add in a wizard that makes any material you add to the scene comply with however many master materials u set up and most people would never have to spend months learning to use your very complex system - they could use it withoutt barely knowing anything

What you’re talking about here is a few material instances. You can make your own materials and set this up.

The depth of the material editor needs to be there, because there are many many materials ( not to mention custom concepts ) which do not fit in this scheme. Post process, for one example.

thats not what I am talking about and I didnt say get rid of the node based system- even octane has 2 different ui’s for material creation - 1 node and 1 slider based . Unreal is heavily geared to an engineering mindset - as an artist coming from design softwares there are very often ways of doing things that may not take advantage of the complete set of abilities but do it significantly faster than then the harder way that you can do anything in . I personally would like to see more 1 click type of solutions for all areas of the engine that setup with wizards the most common aspects of digital production and with just the parts of menu systems that are most useful - u look in editor at the details panel and there are massive amounts of stuff i will never use - but it cause massive amounts of scrolling all the time looking for stuff - and sorry if you have to coonstantly type to find stuff thats an even bigger waste of time - a material library actually in the material editor would greatly speed up material creation - keeping your project organized so you can always find stuff is also an incredible amount of time and unless u got that kind fo mindset its painful to have to do it - I’d much rather have a point and click ui like those balls to get to point A instantly then to have to constantly build the same node tree over and over again - to me thats an incredible waste of time

I guess the start content fill this requirement to some extent.
