New Content Library - First impressions

Played around with new content library. First impressions:

  • Love the theme-focused categories. Perfect for our needs.

  • Love the artstyle of the assets. Fits Fortnite so I want to use them all and combine them with what we have. Great stuff.

  • Would love to see when you press a theme/prop category to have a “prefab-like” shot on top of the gallery that shows how those props are used. Pagoda architecture is super cool for example, but its way easier to understand how to build a modular one when you can see where each piece goes.

  • 3D Inspector is kinda laggy for me, I am dragging my mouse to pan the view and it doesn’t follow until a bit later and not precise to where I was scrolling.

  • The animation when you hover on a prop I feel could be a tad faster (one that shows the filesize). Generally the menus are pretty fast with the exception of that one. If the animation was double speed it would help a lot to see the filesize faster when you hover on props.

  • Would love if the menu wasn’t laggy when the window is out of focus. Other software tend to not do that and it always confuses me thinking that the window is generally lagging, when its really me needing to press once to bring it into focus.

  • On “Environments & Scenes” my expectation clicking that button was to see a scene and how gallery props are being used, instead it feels the same as Objects and Props (mainly because Anubis Statue, the first prop, is in both categories so its confusing whats the difference atm, even though I do understand it).

  • Absolutely love that you can just drag something in and it just works + you dont get a lot of clutter and extra files AND it allows you to update to the latest version which is great (would love to see how that works in action, great implementation though).

  • I can’t get “add source file to project” to work. I see the cursor turns into a hand, but nothing happens when I click it or drag it into the scene. Bit confused.

  • Not sure if that’s easy or not, but would be cool if the assets are props when imported (instead of static meshes) and they can be selected in Creative, as well as destroyed producing the right material. Maybe an opt-in for the artist if they want to do that.

  • Also would love if when imported the asset doesnt create a new folder, it gets very cluttering very fast. A general folder that is defined by the category would be more useful, so it organizes inside your content browser similar to how a creative gallery would organize inside Creative (for example, all pagoda props go to a pagoda folder automatically, taken from the category that is in content library, then inside that folder are all the props that are downloaded, rather than a folder/prop) and lastly

  • Would be nice when you download a prop, you see the version number of it and if there is a new version online, it is indicated on the thumbnail and you can press to download it.
