Hello, I am thinking of buying a new computer and i’m in need of some advice. I’m not to good on these things but that’s why i’m here :D. I am looking at computers online under $1,000. What i’m looking for is something that can keep up with all the new games that come out for a while. And has to ability to run the unreal editor smoothly. I think i have found one that can do both but before i do anything i was going to get some opinions on it here. If its not good tell me. Also if you have any ideas of anything better for around the budget i said above go ahead and link it thanks.
If you’re looking for a future proof PC for games that one is probably not going to cut it, at least if you want to max them out. You aren’t likely to be able to do that with a 1k budget. As for running UE4 smoothly, the specs aren’t too bad. I’m running an AMD Phenom II 830 Quad 2.8 with GTX 660 SC 2gb and I can run the editor pretty smoothly on all Epic settings. I’m not too familiar with AMD processors, but the one linked above seems to be a step higher than mine at least in processor speed. You’re most likely going to want to increase your RAM, and check the maximum speed the motherboard supports. Hope this helps. =)
I think its okay, but you should look for another graphic card. The GTX 750Ti does only have 2GB video ram. The editor will run smoothly, but if your are loading lots of textures its not enough.
If you are looking into the hardware specs. You will see that your new PC should be fine.
Now for games this will be completely fine for quite a while. The 750Ti was created pretty much exclusively as (relatively) low price super fast graphics card. As SchnitzelDude already mentioned it’s not quite enough if you work with super complex large scenes in editor but as hobbyist that won’t be an issue at all.
What concerns me more is that they don’t even tell you which processor they use. AMD, 3.5 ghz and FX series. That’s all they tell you. Well that fits for 5 processors of that series. Since they specifically say 3.5 I suspect it’s the FX6300 or FX8320. Now both are totally fine. FX are all octacores and even though quite a good chunk of current software can’t properly use that it will be more than enough for anything in the near future… still… not happy with that being hidden.
My opinion on windows 8 is not great anyway but the amount of windows 7 desktops you can buy right now is hilariously small. Screw windows for not distributing those properly anymore and pushing for win 8… didn’t they realize people aren’t happy with it?
8 gig ram should be enough as well. Now ideally you want more. But I can live with even 6… missing some things and running at the cap sometimes but it works.
You might wanna watch out for those 6 usb slots. One external harddrive, mouse, keyboard, headset, usb stick and gamepad and you’re full. With only one PCI slot left you can expand that a little but well… it’s only one slot that’s it.
In general: A solid desktop for that price. It will certainly get you the best settings in games for a few years. You should also have no issues with any engine or software. Rendering some movie will still take quite a bit due to those 2 GB video ram but as far as I’m aware that’s not an application area you’re going for
But do care a little anyway. I just looked up the price of this one on iBuyPower and the lowest I could get with similar specs is a bit above 800 dollar… I am not sure what they did to dump that price this much… especially since they even say “Save 100 (Reg. 779)”. That’s still around 40 bucks below what could be done in iBuyPower… maybe they have a deal but don’t expect high quality components especially not since it’s only providing the main components everyone can talk about and gibberish no one cares about (what does the average consumer care about the cache memory? That’s part of the CPU. Just write down which one exactly you use!) but still very important things like the main board, the power supply, cpu cooler and that stuff (which has a huge impact… especially regarding the noise of your computer) is just left out… it feels like that’s intentional.
They are pushing every “new” Windows. With Windows Vista they stopped shipping XP, same with Win7. But I wouldn’t care about it that much, because Win10 will be released “soon” and its free for all Win7 and Win8 users. For me Win8 improvent my PCs performance and since you can start from normal desktop everything is fine again.
BTT: Regarding to the specs I agree with Erasio.
It says on the overview tab that it is an FX-6300. Easy to miss though as that information is excluded from the specifications tab.
Thanks for the opinions guys. So in all is this worth a shot or should i try to do better?
It’s really up to you.
The system should certainly work and since you don’t want to build it yourself you probably don’t need a good mainboard or any other bonus stuff to change main parts later on.
The computer might be rather loud since I can guarantee you there are no fancy fans or even water cooling.
But it has solid specs and is probably the best you can get for this price within the next year or such.
