New Camera device

I been trying to make a 2d creative map with the new devices but i have no clue how to use it. Can someone please explain what I need to do to get a 2d perspective? The photo is an example of how i want the perspective to look. Please help!

Hi FrostedStudios, Welcome to the Forums.

Try placing a fixed angle camera device.

Let us know if you’re still having troubles.

Hello! I already tried doing that but it’s not working. The camera only show up above the player. Idk which settings in the fixed angle camera i’m supposed to change, so the camera can move side to side. Can you possibly show a screenshot of the correct settings?

You’d want to change the Angle Pitch in the Fixed Camera Details Panel. There is a video in the documentation I posted earlier that shows this variable being changed… :face_with_monocle:

I’m also looking at the ‘Control: Third Person’ device, but I’m unsure if it is possible to lock the players movement to one plane.

Where could I find the video?!

Hello! I was able to change the camera to the picture I sent! It the perfect perspective! The only problem is the movement, how do I fix the movement?

Glad to hear it.

About the movement: That’s what I meant when I mentioned that I’m unsure if it is possible to lock the players movement to one plane/axis with the device.

One workaround would be creating a slim path with blocking volumes.

Blocking volume? Is that with the new volume device?

Good question,

It’s not, there is something simpler in the place actors dropdown.

I made a slim path and added a block volume but it’s not working so I am doing something wrong? Where do I add the block volume at? When I add it on the path it just moved me to the side. Also which collision do I add? This is what happens when I spawn in. My character is facing forward instead of the side. Thank you for all the help btw!

Happy to help, you’d want a blocking volume on each side. (Empty area in the middle). I just did a test and it works with the default “Invisible Wall” collision settings.

I see what you mean about spawn direction. (Rotating spawn pad has no effect) - but since the player will be able to have complete control over facing direction immediately after spawn I don’t think this is a problem.

I will try this when I get home, thank you!

I encountered another problem. In the camera manual Designing with Cameras and Controls, it was written, and I quote:

-“In order for players to be able to aim their weapons and have their characters change direction, a Player Controller device is placed in the level with the default settings.”

But I still don’t understand how to add the “Player Controller” to my level. I couldn’t find it in the list of devices.

Can you provide guidance on how to do this?

P.S.:
I understand what the issue is. It’s necessary to add “Third Person Controls Devices” to the scene instead of “Player Controller Device.”
