new animation showing rc work

I’ve uploaded a new animation to youtube showing our recent rc work.

Chris,

That’s awesome! Can you give us some idea of the processing times for each of these segments?

well…

i would say close to a week each for the bigger scenes. the city night one was fast, probably only a day or two. but it wasnt many photos and only a small area.

larger city one (hobart) i have only managed to get out on normal so far.

and i just cancelled another one after running for 10 days. which i was hoping to get into this animation.

so its been hard work. taken quite a few goes each. quickly go through a month without much to show when trying to get high detail scenes out. but I’m pretty happy with results once it works. and it really beats modelling the context.

Very nice. I was wondering whereabouts it was - now I see Mt Wellington in the background… MONA. How did you get the background terrain integrated with the modeled stuff (I’m assuming you didn’t fly the whole of Hobart…)
I’m just up the road from Melbourne. Hopefully can share some of my imagery at some stage when I get a computer which is capable of getting all the way thru a job!

mona and hobart in the same heli run.

they are only 8km apart, you can cover a big area with a heli vs a drone.

do have some versions of them aligned together, but i should have more photos between them. and i don’t need to do any animation going from one to the other. but i might come back to the later.

Have finally had some success getting models to process! This is from a 10min phantom 3 flight, 335 photos- nadir and 2 oblique orbits at different radii- high resolution RC model was 44 million triangles- reduced to 2 million for sketchfab upload:

also did an 8 million triangle output which is a bit less blocky but may or may not load depending on connection:

Happy to be able to output models again without crashing!

good to see some models.

glad its all working now.

what did you end up doing?

There seemed to be a few things to get my work laptop working- installed more ram (stole from my alienware), added a 500GB SSD as scratch drive, had to play with various versions of the quadro driver as RC didn’t want to recognise it as an nvidia card. And setting bounding box pre-reconstruction helped with the memory error I think.
Should suffice for smaller projects until I get new workstation build up and running.

amazing :o
thanks for sharing with us, I’ve just posted it to our Facebook group, hope you don’t mind
