Network DDC in UE5: Absent feature from UE4?

Hi everyone,

We’ve used (to great benefit) a network-shared DDC (derived data cache) in UE4 for a good while. In version 4 there is a “Network DDC Path” that we populate with a network drive path on both workstations and – boom – all worked for the shared network location.

In UE5, however, the “Network” DDC options seem mysteriously absent…so we’re curious if this is just not presently in the editor, we’re not looking in the right place, etc.

Thank you.

You mean Shared DDC?

Hi! Thank you for your reply.
Oddly, no: In UE4 there was a specific “Network DDC Path” box, which seems to be omitted in UE5. Either it’s been relocated, combined, or something else – but I’d love to know one way or another!

Shared DDC
One of our strongest recommendations for teams in the same location is that they set up a shared DDC. This is a network drive that all team members and build machines can read/write to. This then writes off the cost of creating any required DDC data across the entire team. For example, when an artist edits a shader, the DDC data will be written straight to the DDC share.

  • Shared DDC: Will be either a network or mapped drive.

An example of a shared drive would be: \epicgames.net\root\DDC-Global-Fortnite
