NeoFur - Fur, Fibers, Fuzzy Surfaces and more!

I have a “legal” question…
I once buy the indie licence and now, they gave me (and to all buyer) the sources of the plugins.
I do my own maintenance on it and maybe, some people in the same situation will upgrade it, add new function, correct some bug…
Can we share this work ? With who ?
Who is the legal proprietary of the code ? I know that it is not a free code but it’s not for sell any more and we have no clue about the new owner identity, do we ?
How can we add it to the credit of a game made with it ? By naming “neoglyphic” (witch doesn’t exist ?) ? Or the new owner (witch I don’t the name) ?

What can we do with the plugin ? What can’t we do ?
Is it just a ghost code, lost forever for every one that didn’t buy it at the good time ?
What does neoglyphic means by releasing the source code to licencies ?

You can theoretically share the changes only, but you can’t share any of the original code.

Very dissapointed if the support is gone. The plugin havent even worked yet proberly. It breaks certain shadder settings to work, so cant use it. Tried to contact them for refund months ago but seems like I lost the 100euros. The tech is very cool, but this is not right.

I have opened a new NeoFur thread in witch I hope we will share the modifications needed to compile and use NeoFur with the newer version of the Engine.
I put my own research in it and I finally manage to compile it for 4.17 but I have another problem with the 4.17 update and the shader in plugin system changes.

Please, if you’re a coder and own the sources of NeoFur, take a look at this new thread and help other users to maintain NeoFur, all by ourself

EDIT : We did it ! I’m so happy to get NeoFur working in UE4.17 !
I did a lot of crappy hacks but it works… I’m sure that a competent coder will correct a lot in what I did.
In fact, I didn’t understood the half of what I did
I will soon rewrite the first post to share the final result of our research and share it.

Well, getting it to work is one thing, but this is anything but maintainable, especially in a professional setting. Very disappointing, I hope some tech shows up to fill the void sooner or later.

That’s why we should find the legal owner of NeoFur and ask him/it to free this plugin.
If nobody can benefit from it, if it is not for sale any more and if it is abandoned by his devs…
The best thing that can happen to this code is to be opened.

If NeoFur code were open, real coders could work on it and it will be not only be maintained but made better…

(You can say I’m a dreamer… but I’m not he only one ^^)

EDIT : I went to the neoglyphic site and they say that it’s just a transition period and that they MAY come back to neofur…

we will try to do this as quickly as possible and will communicate the long term plan here on our website, as well on our social handles.
We are currently working through a transition plan, over the coming weeks/months we will gain more clarity. During that time, we will not be actively working on new features, however, we will aim to remain compatible with new engine versions during this time.

So maybe one of these days, but so far, they didn’t manage to remain compatible with new engine versions as promised…

It’s been saying that for a very long time.

Just so we’re clear, here, anyone who bought the plugin got source access. My problem is that I don’t know how to get the plugin to actually work in new versions, since I don’t know how plugins work. Isn’t the world lovely.

We manage to compile it for UE 4.17.
It’s hacky but it works

I don’t know how far we can go this way…

It has been 5 months…

Gfur seems to never make a collision. No one has yet been able to upgrade NeoFur to 4.21?

Neofur has been dead for a long time, I wouldn’t expect to see anyone compiling it for recent versions any more.

We lost a dynamic fur. Gfur does not support collisions.
Need an alternative…
