Hello everyone, I hope you’re doing well! I’m Whittarsh from Italy. I’m developing an idea for a vertical 2D platformer game. My character is a small bird that flies and climbs up a tree.
I’m reaching out because I’d like some advice on how to handle the graphic design. I’m working on sprites and tilesets for the terrain. However, my main issue is the background. Let me explain: the game is set in a forest where the bird ascends higher and higher on a giant and majestic tree. I would like to find a way to either make the tree composable with a tileset or have the tree (or parts of it, since it’s very large) as part of the background and use specific assets for the branches where the bird can jump and perch.
How would you handle this issue, and what approach would you take? I primarily use Aseprite and Unreal Engine 5 with PaperZD.
