Hey everyone,
I’m working on a Walking Dead-themed island in UEFN and I’m running into some issues with changing the environment settings. Specifically, I want to transform my default scene into a nighttime setting with a big moon, some realistic clouds, and fog to get that eerie atmosphere. However, it seems like some of the skybox and lighting elements are hard-baked, and I can’t find any straightforward tutorials that walk through how to customize these settings step-by-step.
Does anyone have experience with tweaking the environment to achieve a specific time of day and atmosphere? I’m especially interested in adjusting the lighting, adding a moon, setting up clouds, and incorporating fog to match the mood. Any pointers to resources, settings adjustments, or even hidden menus that could help me out?
Thanks in advance!
You can see by the image, after an hour or more of tweaking and searching online, this is where I am. I can’t for the life of me get the clouds to be darker. And after tweaking every setting in Day Sequence, and Environment Light Rig, I can’t get the sky to be darker. It’s even tricky to position the sun in the proper place to match the shadows. I don’t mean to complain, but this is all very confusing.
After more tweaking, the only setting that kills the bright white clouds is the cloud opacity in the Day Sequence Device.
I’m thinking I have to just turn off the default baked in lighting setup that TWDU islands have. They seem to override everything. But now I can’t get any clouds. This is boggling my mind.
I think they need to better implement a system for setting up TWDU environment lighting and effects. Or at least let you edit the hard-coded one in the scenes. Why wouldn’t they let the user easily tweak the time of day, clouds etc. The amount of things I have to figure out in order to override their hard-coded setup is crazy. And the default is a day time scene…for a Walking Dead world. Odd. Call me a whiny baby, but after days of messing with UEFN, and this hard-blocked lighting setup, and not being able to control this stuff, I just don’t want to work in it anymore.
