Need help on data table defined level transition widget menu selection clicked open level

I managed to acomplish this mission in deleted project. Corrupted harddrive. Please explain and help fixing. It is a powerful tool for prepared presentation.

To break down the process:
There is range of levels named

there is a main menu widget that lists range of ITEM widgets based on data table raws


there is the ITEM widget and tfunction that defines the text

there is the data table that defines raw name and level name that supposed to be oppenned matching the level name from the content browser

there is the orbit pawn that on event begin play creates the main menu widget and adds it to viewport

I’m not entirely sure, but I think this should be connected

And the variable should be Name, not Name_0.

so far the name is defined in menu widget


if i redo in the manner indicated,

then it seems like there is no connection between the data table and the button range defined within

that name variable seems empty and not connected to any of the code
if i connect it with the transition event TEXT, that defines the text of each of the item widget - raws within the menu

in both cases the error occurs#

i have updated the screens to see if that would make it easier to locate the error

For sure, the column called ‘level’ in the data table, should have these names in it

Somehow, you need to get that data table value to the dispatcher event. So, this

should be connected to something. Possibly here

It’s quite hard to see the wiring…

it seems like the problem is with the wiring, since i have done it before, and the solution was dumb simple… let me see if anything changes…
do you think i shall call the open level command from menu widget or from item widget?

its like the array element is text from raw name and it lists it to each of the item widget and assigns the name, then, level name is different column which must match the level name from the content browser…


if i try it, it only works if i manually type the level name,
but as soon as i connect the open level variable with the data table, it fails

individual ITEM widget is intact

and missing the runtime reference recall

I was thinking about this a bit more. I think the structure is overcomplicated.

The name of the level is passed to the buttons, for the text.

So why not just code the button widget, when pressed, to do the open level call?

recorded a vid for you, it may be lengthy but tried multiple fixes i could

nearly fixed on standalone, opens the first and the last level from data table

when i did it, it was different, but i see this being the correct way
will attempt to understand how it works
will get the text indicator next
will attempt to get another widget menu from level blueprint to activate local triggers…

Mate I just checked your steam video, it’s amazing. Did you develop that puzzle game yourself or is it a team?
It reminds me of bioshock and portal, probably your favorite, played them back in a day…
Personally, that part where you change oblivion doors and stairs assemble themselves from bricks, I had that dream a year ago, like battlefiel 5 Easter egg…
All the pieces look great… Would deffinately play that game.

I developed it on my own. Two years. Not bad, seeing as I knew nothing about the engine and had to bin most of what I did in the first year :slight_smile:

Did you learn everything from free material? Got a job. Teaching English in local school instead of the army… looking forward continuing my course

Yes, everything from youtube etc. I would be interested in these academy things, but a lot of the time they cover pretty basic stuff, and never the bit I was interested in.

Life course mate, haha. I got into education 5 years ago, first 3 years taught English to Chinese children, 3years+, they didn’t even know the words in Chinese…lol now I teach to adults. I’m gonna restore the old project with MGS platform by Raed Abbas, that uses data table and connect language database filtered by topic. use this menu as the filter and 360 spawn the 3d vocab mesh with text actor that faces player attached. I wantsmart school business centers to somehow display the 360 on 4 projectors that will desplat the voc on walls. I want them to look as portals, that will be able to initiate auto sequence and f learning - generated assignments to aid drilling exercise. Like levels in your game. Combine various drilling exercise for review. The initial data source is an image, so the meaning or language can be attached and altered. That will enable business to be global, open and available. Private schools are the testing ground, and is also usable and affordable by public institutions. I will get the project together with further explanations and business plans in different thread. Just had some ■■■■ to in my life that still needs cleansing. Some routine works. Had to let it out…
