Need help: How to remove grass and rocks from MW Automaterial?

MW auto material is probably the most popular auto material that people use and rave about. First encountered it on Youtube and that’s how I heard about it and started using it. It’s pretty decent, but one of the frustrations I have is that I don’t know how to remove the grass at all or the rocks. I’m talking about the static grass meshes. The only way I found to actually disable them or turn them off or erase them from my map was completely deleting the meshes. But I feel like there’s gotta be a less volatile nuclear option right? Has anyone messed around with this?

Hi there,

Go to landscape mode, paint mode, then check your paint layers, confirm the “layer info” assets are correctly assigned in each drop down list. Typically any auto material has a “remove grass” layer in the end of the list. Select it and use it with a paint brush to manually erase the foliage. If you right click then select fill layer, it erases everything.

If this still doesn’t work for you, you might need to edit your master material and unplug the nodes correspondent to the foliage spawning logic.

I’m a little confused. How’d you get all those layers? I’m using the same thing (MW) and it has none of those out of the box installed off of Fab. If I press the + button to add one, it can’t find any of them either.

Hey,

Let me take a guess: you’re on 5.7 while I was still working in 5.6. If that’s the case, something likely changed in the landscape system or in how the landscape material layers are structured in the newer version. Unfortunately, I don’t have enough insight into 5.7’s changes to give you a solid fix.

A moderator might be able to jump in with more accurate guidance.

You could also try asking in the official UE Discord or reaching out directly to the creator of the pack. They should be able to clarify what changed between engine versions and how the landscape materials are meant to be set up now.

Good luck.
