Naval Simulator - Bring Us Higher Than Top 3%/IndieDB

Project Title: Operation Trident also known as Op:T
Project Description: The game basis is a submarine simulator set in a new era that has never been done before (WWII is done to death and modern a few games): Cold War. Wont bore the thread with details. A good overview of the game, although it has changed, is here when it was initially a Unity project idea way back

Background:
**
Edit Jun 21: Its come to my attention most people are turned off by the lack of planning, thus we are having a Slack/Skype meeting this Saturday June 25th to decide everything about the demo for the kickstarter campaign gameplan/gameplay/tasks wise. **

Edit: A GDD is available to anyone looking for more depth its about 30 pages, and a a intentionally broken raw source and asset project (with the logic still sound) is available for download for anyone in contact that think this project might be promising for both parties.

I’m developing, alongside a few other people who are going to help as time permits, and a couple modelers helping out here and there a submarine simulator. My game idea brought a revolution to the sub-sim indie idea and now 3 or 4 games have popped up, mine being the first, project RedWater (working title)

Were currently developing for a playable demo to start a kick-starter and then steam green-light at the moment the only code/BP developer is myself however, since I’ve been waiting to get this playable demo out before looking for a larger team but I’m worried that waiting too long will lead to lost interests hence this post.

People from across europe and USA are currently partially involved so someone will always be available when this takes off.

My company is incorporated in Canada as a personal business. Nothing major but a little more offical. I personally have over 5000 followers on youtube for my 3D modelling/Unreal tutoring and have people who have served on submarines onboard as well as many vets have become my email-pen-pals.

Constantly ranking anywhere from top 250 to top 1500 on IndieDB depending if I post screenshot updates or not.

Have and NDA and IP agreements ready to go where one will own all code/models/whatever IP until any donations/kickstarter/other funding comes in at which point it will be either purchased or on royalty basis, giving a little more freedom to the whole royalies idea.

Here are some links to look at, I can be contacted on skype @ blendertek. We are using SVN currently on my unlimited hosting but will be moving to a nice fast perforce server July 1st.

Heres why I think this game will succeed once the v0.12preTechDemo playable demo level is out, similar games in the overdone-world-war2-subsim genre have reached well above their kickstarter goals in half the time thought.

As well the sub-sim community are very dedicated to their game-genre and donations are plentiful since big studios have dropped the genre almost completely and people want new sub-sims to play.

Skype if interested, I also check info [AT] blendertek [DOT] com once in a while. We can discuss more then and you can join the public development chat room on Skype and Slack.

Looking for:
Immediately - Blueprinters - Any skill level, someone to take over some of my responsibilites for gameplay so I can focus on managment and jumping around since im a jack of all trades.
Near future or immediately - 3D modellers - Any skill level as long as knowing how to create proper game ready assets is in your skill box
Near future - C++ - Decently skilled, while myself and some team members can code at various levels, certain parts of this game when we reach the next goal (Playable demo, kickstarter success) will require some somewhat fancy level, modding and rendering setups. Blueprints and my limited knowledge of advanced C++ is the major hinderance to taking this game to full distribution-ready.

All I ask for team members is open minded, mature and able to work well on a team. Age, language/timezone barriers are not an issue.

I have previous game jam submissions I can dig out of last year before I started full-time on this if interested.

Edit: I should note the team currently numbers around 4-6 people on a “as i have time” basis and myself full-time.

Edit: Someone suggested I post some photos, good idea

Edit: Social Media and Domain coming between June 27th-July 1st

very interesting, I like this kind of game, and can be very sucessfull if well done! free bump

Also looking for immediately: Graphics Designer for GUI’s (and maybe our website) as well as anything else not 3D modeled. Having to drop your work and open Photoshop kills workflow.

This simple error dialog took way too long for me for example, not that I cant do it, I’,m just slow and could be spending time doing gameplay.

Edit: Top 250 today!

Still top 300 today thats great. Heres some concept art from my OLD notebook. http://imgur.com/a/HPMH3

Looks awesome! Sent you an email

UBOOT got well above their goal, we’ll see howHMS Mulruken does here, being a little over halfway with a week left showing nothing other than a small playable demo, but looking good for inital funding for this new era of indie subsims finally becoming a reality.

Among another suggestion got a Slack setup for all departments with rooms setup with bots for source control revisions and trello card changes as well as note taking and link spidering.

Big news in the SubSim community, sorry if this bump isnt to regulations.

HMS Muralken linked above cancelled their kickstarter and is being funded by the individual that owns the website of the number one naval simulator community. I’m guessing well over 100k in investment plus himself moving to their hometown to watch development.

This changes things in this genre of games, lots of firsts, lots of goods, and some bads.

Secondly, this Saturday at 1230 MST (1830 GMT) we are having an offical team chat/voip session to discuss all game plans due to this and other issues to nail timelines and a consolidated GDD and business plan. Anyone still wanting to be a part of what i’ll ‘sell’ as the “inital founders” is still able to contact me this week and be involved in the decision making process this weekend.

After that its work time, a new era of naval simulators finally being realized! And a nice little Unity vs Unreal and private vs crowd funded compeition
