Nature Environment in UE4

Yes, it is.

AntonioModer posted a solution for smoothly fading grass, I am using it and my lighting is fine. I’m not sure what you are talking about.

I thought you mean :

Oh, no. I was talking about :

xD

How much of is becoming obsolete come 4.7?

In 4.7 will be the basic material setup (wind and all other stay the same)

Thanks for the heads up .

Indeed, thanks a lot.

But are we getting with the new material?
I tried 4.7 preview briefly but wasn’t getting close to result below. shrug

-grass, flowers, bushes -> yes
-trees -> dont know, havent reached anything in quality yet

Yeah I was trying it with trees and it was not much better than the setup I had previously, which was pretty ugly tbh. Hopefully they’ve improved it quite a bit for release.

Hi guys,

I’m trying to follow all the good advice of post but I’m not able to figure out how you all managed to have such details in masked mode. I really get the feeling that my mipmapping is not well set compare to your screenshots…

I think I found out how to sharpen the rendering:

What I did was switch to FXAA

Is what I did ok?

Jeah its okay

can you share some more details on your set up ?
btw your grass is looking great !

Now with 4.7 you just have to do it like that:

I will tonight… give me some time for a simple tutorial

To summarize, I found out very difficult to use grass from Internet. First, you don’t have any control of what you got. Second the quality is usually pretty low. The best is to create your own grass. So I used Maya to do so… as it’s better than 3dsmax (I started using 3dsmax when it was called 3dstudio but get converted to Maya 7 years ago) to create quickly smoothed shapes from low poly meshes (Just kidding guys  )

Here are my steps:

Then render to get the color (use photoshop to make it better) and the alpha

Optimize the wasted space and here you go

For the animation, I’m using a mix between material (?v=HhUK_02vSyE) and the SingleGrassWind node. The material exposed in the video is about moving grass in the X and Y axes through a normal map. And I’m adding The SingleGrassWind to get a bit of Z animation.

Et voilà

Sorry for bringing up - but do you mind testing if there is any performance win and/or how many shader instructions we safe by 4.7 with the foliage shader? As i can’t use the 4.7 on my machine (no add engine option in the launcher).
Thank you.

Yep, I will test it -> could take a while because I’m currently dowloading the latest 4.7 preview

Do you know when the 4.7 is supposed to be released?
