nanite mesh looks like crap - help!

This Curb looks fine in Unreal until I take it into Maya and deform it along a curve. When I bring it back it looks like super low res mesh, even though vert/face count is identical and unchanged.

Are there some kind of unreal settings that I maybe need to reapply to the newly imported mesh?


Oddly, when I take to maya, and bring back to unreal WITHOUT deforming it looks awesome still. something about deforming and then bringing back is messing things up.
