My unreal engine installation keeps stopping after reaching a certain percentage(44%)

The installation of Unreal 5.7 always stops at 44%. I left it for day to like some sources suggested, still no progress with the installation. I have tried this download over 5+ times now. I even gave up at some point but came back to retry it again to see what happens. It’s really frustrating that just the installation can almost make one go mad :sob::sob::sob:

Suggestions to resolving this would be greatly appreciated. I’ve tried everything I can. I also have over 100+GB of free storage on my 1TB SSD storage, so it isn’t some space issue.

Hello @Eonsinde ,Welcome to the forums!

I was reviewing other posts where several people mentioned that the installation was getting stuck at a specific percentage. If you already tried the basic steps I mentioned in this post

There are two other possible solutions that worked for some people:

  1. Pause and resume the installation
They paused the download in the Epic Games Launcher, waited a few seconds, and then resumed it. In some cases, this forced the launcher to reconnect properly and the installation continued.
  2. Install an older version of the Epic Games Launcher (18.8.1)
Some users mentioned that the issue was related to the launcher version rather than Unreal itself. After uninstalling the current launcher and installing an older version (specifically v18.8.1), they were able to install the engine without it getting stuck again.

Hope it helps!

Hello, thank you for the suggestion, I’m grateful. I installed version 18 of the Epic launcher and now I’m getting an error message whenever the download reaches 44% again. I don’t know what it is about coming to a halt at 44% :sob::sob::sob:

That’s really unlucky  I’ve been looking to see if there were other very similar cases, but I couldn’t find much specific information about it stopping at that exact percentage.

Something I found is that you could also try installing it on your C: drive if you’re currently using a different disk. Sometimes installation issues are related to drive permissions, security settings, or how Windows handles secondary drives, and installing on the main system drive can avoid those conflicts.
Does this also happen when you try to install other Unreal Engine versions, or only with 5.7?

I’m also leaving you the link to Epic’s support page, Troubleshooting the Epic Games Launcher, where they list several solutions and troubleshooting steps. Maybe one of those methods can help you get the installation unstuck.

I was finally able to install version 5.6 successfully by changing the installation directory as instructed. I tried the same with 5.7, all to no avail sadly; it just wouldn’t get past 44%. Thank you for your help, I’m grateful.
