My Terrible Attempts

Hi, I used to do modding and indie game stuff back nearly 20 years ago. Back then I did play with Unreal Engine 2 a bit, although I preferred the Doom3 Engine, which was new and shiny, and less bug prone. Anyway, forums seem to be a thing of the past, but I figured I would still post here. I will put all my learning stuff in this thread. Trying to make a dystopic, cyberpunk city. I want to make it super lean so I can run it on my old hardware and play in it with VR, so I turned off the Lumen and Nanite stuff. I hope to figure out how to correctly use instancing. I want a lot of volumetric type effects. I used to do that back in the day with sprites, but I need to learn how to do that again. The included fog effect might get a bit expensive with a bunch of lights in it. Also, the point light seems to only produce hard shadows for me, but the spot light produces soft shadows. I am sure there are a billion things I am doing wrong. If you spot any, please tell me. I am modelling in Blender and making textures in an OG version of photoshop. I guess this will just be a diary thing.
