My Projects not appearing in my "My Projects" folder

I just recently launched opened the Epic Game Launcher and selected Unreal Engine. I found that I only had version “5.5.4” available. Previously I had quite a few versions of UE but now they are gone.
However I did find the folder where I was saving my projects. This is more important to me. How can I get my old projects to show up in the “My Projects” folder?

Hello Shaunm let me help you with this. Do you still have the project folder on your PC?

To access your project files, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Epic Games Launcher and navigate to Unreal Engine > Library.
  2. In the Library, click on “Launch” for the version of Unreal Engine you are using (e.g., UE 5.5.4).
  3. The Projects window will appear. If your projects are not listed, click on “Browse…” (or “Open Project”) and navigate to the folder where your projects are stored.
  4. Select the .uproject file you want to open and click to open it. Once you open each project this way, they should reappear in the “My Projects” list.

Please confirm that you are logged in to the same Epic Games account.

Occasionally, when switching accounts or reinstalling the launcher, you may find that your recent projects are not appearing. To resolve this, try opening them manually. However, ensure that you are using the same account that you used to install and manage those Unreal Engine versions.

If you cannot find local or cloud copies and didn’t use a repository, and no one else owns the projects, unfortunately, there is no way to recover them.

I was able to find my projects in my “My Projects” in Epic Games Launcher and “Recent Projects” in the Unreal Project Browser. So Far So Good.

Problem now is that each one needs to be converted to the latest version of UE that I have installed, 5.44. First problem is that they say they need the visual studio plugin but it cannot be found. That confuses me since these were all running under the older versions of UE and so I must have had the plugin at that point. Is there any way to add/recover the Visual Studio plugin?

Hello Shaun, first of all, please take a look at this.
Open Unreal EditorEditPlugins.

  • Search for “Visual Studio Integration” or “Visual Studio Tools”.
  • If it appears but is disabled, enable it and restart Unreal Engine.

If it is missing, please refer to the documentation on how to install Visual Studio.
