My Idea of Bringing Fortnite to Linux

Hey everyone.
I wanted to propose my idea to the Epic Games team of an attempt of running Fortnite under Linux safely and reliably.

I have experience in Android, Linux, reverse engineering, and programming.

If you have ever heard of the project called Sober by VinegarHQ, they got Roblox running under Linux by making Roblox’s x86_64 android app run under Linux by making a specialized runtime.

Before I found out Epic Games actively BLOCKS Linux, I was quite disappointed, and I want to change that for the Linux community.

I would like to work with Epic games directly on trying to get Fortnite under Linux safely, without introducing new holes for exploiters.

This has been one of my biggest dreams for a while now, and I’d love to work with y’all to make this possible.

How? Well we have three options for now.

  1. Working with Epic to allow for WINE to run Fortnite
  2. Epic releases Fortnite Mobile for x86_64, and my team and I work together to make it safely run under Linux as an unofficial client.
  3. Epic games works with my team to make a brand new native Linux client.

Let me know what you think of this, and if you are willing to help out. A lot of people want this.

Thanks!

I love Linux, it’s my main operative system.
I wish you all the best.

Unreal already supports linux. so they could also make a build that runs native (i would love that).
otherwise i think it could run on proton.
my game that i make on linux, i run the windows build through proton and works great.
i think Epic’s biggest issue is the anticheat software. it has been always an issue when porting games to linux. but i think there are alternatives.

Fortnite uses EasyAntiCheat, i doubt there is version of it for linux.

I also have (bit different) problems cause by it, i cannot open (well forward) ports that UEFN requires so that pos EasyAntiCheat kills my whole LAN connection about 30sec after i start fortnite session in uefn.
