I wanted to share my experience in case it helps others who are considering investing in Unreal Engine training.
I purchased an Arch Viz Artist Unreal Engine course because it was marketed as a professional learning path that would teach how to create realistic scenes in Unreal Engine and help build production-level skills.
I have now completed the entire course, and unfortunately, my opinion remains the same as it was midway through: the course did not deliver the kind of understanding or educational value that was implied.
My main issues:
-
Most lessons are extremely short
-
The teaching style is largely “click this, change this value, do this next”
-
There is very little explanation of why specific choices are being made
-
Core concepts are demonstrated, but not actually taught in a way that builds understanding
Even after completing the full course, I do not feel it properly taught the foundations needed to confidently work in Unreal Engine, especially for someone expecting a structured educational experience.
The course is promoted as helping you create realistic scenes, but I found that:
-
scene building principles were not properly explained
-
materials were demonstrated rather than taught conceptually
-
lighting setup lacked the depth needed to understand realistic workflows
-
much of the process relied on following steps using provided project assets
That may work if someone only wants to replicate a specific project, but in my opinion it does not provide a strong transferable skillset.
Another major disappointment was support.
The AVA Community is promoted as part of the learning/support ecosystem, but in my experience:
-
it appeared largely inactive
-
many questions went unanswered
-
I personally asked a question early in the course and never received a reply
I also attempted to contact the company directly:
-
March 26 – initial email
-
March 30 – follow-up
-
April 3 – formal refund request
I received no response.
I’m sharing this because these courses are expensive, and I think people should know what they’re getting into before spending that amount.
I’d genuinely like to hear from others:
-
Did you have a similar or different experience?
-
What Unreal Engine / ArchViz learning resources actually helped you build real understanding?
