My disappointment with Unreal and the Epic bugsubmission

Hello everyone,

first of all before I begin my little rant, I just wanna say, how happy I am that such a great tool such as Unreal Engine is out here, free to use, where on is being able to fullfile their gaming dream and create their own game. Its important for me to say this because this is my first post and I dont wanna seem ungreatful or anything, my last few weeks were really amazing, creating my own game, solving problems and all that.

That being said tho, I wanna explain my situation im in right now:
First of all, bugs - it happens, my first bigger one was figuring out, why I couldnt export the first version of my game, it just didnt export to the end and always stoped. And as you could probably tell, im new to UE5 and this whole thing. I cant look at the logs and then figure out on my own, what in the world is wrong there, most probably cant I would say. Okey, so i google a tons and tons of different stuff, mainly install a lot of windows programms and then it finally works, I can export, Im guessing it was visual studios that was the problem here. Okey so far so good.

Now a few days later, im having the time of my life, creating my own game and just today, I just cant open my project anymore, it crashes at 92% while laoding in. So I guess the only thing to do is send the crash report + go to the recommended epic/unrealsubmission side to send a more detailed report, to hopefully get my amazing project back. What happens? After filling out everything, it wont send OR it just sends forever with a forever-spinning wheel, no message, no anything saying like:’’ it didnt work because …’’ AT ALL. It amazes me, that something like this is possible with a company being this big, I mean certently the ppl of unreal want to know whats wrong and want to fix buggs in the future right?

Its just, having your greatest project just shutdown basically, not being able to do anything because searching up anything is completly useless, then trying to get help from epic/unreal and then it doesnt work, why? Because there is a forever spinning wheel, after you click on the submit bug report button to get more help … Its rly frustrating for me andhonestly, im scared now, that my game is maybe not recoverable or something, like I dont know, maybe it resett stuff which would also really suck.
Bugs happen, crashes happen, but im scared, that in the future for this engine, this will happen more often and stuff like me not being able to actually keep going on unreal will happen again. I just dont understand, why it has to be this way, like why for exaple can programms like visual studios, why are they not downloaden automaticly with unreal or something? Trying to get help on discord also seems very hard, there are a lot of ppl it seems like but I guess not many experts, which im not saying there should be, but it would be cool if there were maybe helpers or something (if there arent already of course).

These things really frustrate me, I dont want to deal with super ennoying stuff like googeling and installing extra microsoft programms and dealing with simple side sending problems, this still really triggers me, makes me angry and then sad :frowning:.

For example at this point, this is basically my last hope to get my project back maybe, I dont know what else to do, I can google more and hope that someone had the exact bug as me or something, but that just so aweful, so yeah, Im open for anything.

Ty for everyone who read this far and I hope, your having a better day then I had today!

i can understand your frustration. please vote for an lts it will help.

Sadly Unreal Engine is not game engine, not rendering engine, it is INVESTORS engine. Every few months they want new breaking news about new buzzword that CEO can happily announce on stage.

Remember StarWars tech demo and ray-tracing, Matrix tech demo and mass entity, recent nanite huge announcement (this one is actually developed).

So every few months they want new buzzword to get more investors. Because new big system would require more coders, they just shift who they have from old projects to new ones. So old stuff will never get to state we could call “production ready” for eg whole open world system, it is still missing crucial features. Creating own game that uses it shows that half of that system is not even coded in.

that makes me sad. i hope they can reconsider.
