Musicvideo "Bassline research facility"

Hi,
I just finished my first noncommercial Musicvideo rendered with Unreal Engine 5. It’s put together from the Asset Store’s Polar SciFi Facilty and SciFi Season 1&2. Also purchased a cgtrader model of the TB-303 Bassline Synth. I mainly do kitbashing, life is short.

I have a 3D modeling & animation background (Image, Lightwave, Cinema3D) but the rendering times always disrupted my creative flow. Unreal’s todays possibilies are so mindblowing that i decided to give it a try creating some nice, relaxing musicvideos with it. This is the first one.

Hope you like it
Comments welcome of course.

Hi there @Stereoping,

Hope you’re doing well and having a great week so far.

The music and video match so well! Specifically, the lighting and particles create such a magical looking environment. It almost feels cinematic with how pretty you managed to make a research lab

Do you plan on creating more projects like this?

Beautifully done. Thanks so much for sharing

Hey @PresumptivePanda,

thank you very much for having a look and your kind comment

Yes, i definately plan to make more musicvideos. I have so much songs flying around where i have visuals in mind for. At the moment i am sitting on the 2nd one, hopefully it will be ready in between the next 3-4 weeks. These first projects are still kind of simple, i need to learn so much.

Many things in the video above (like the particles of the polar station) were already set up in the projects i’ve pulled from the asset store. I try to put parts from such projects together and tweak necessary things to glue everything together. It’s MUCH fun and helps learning the engine. Having started with 3D in the 90ies of the last century i somehow lost faith in doing Computeranimation after 15 years. Some months ago i decided to give it another try by having a look into this engine and i was simply shocked in a positive way what’s possible today.

Greetings @Stereoping !

Congratulations on completing your first post-commercial music video rendered with UE5! The bass sounds so lovely with headphones and the fluidity and pacing of the camera work was splendid! I am really impressed with your choice of camera angles.

Specifically, what have you found that UE does better than other animation programs that you’ve used in the past? Also, do you feel that your previous experience with 3D modeling and animation have given you a bit of an edge in learning UE5? Is the music of your own creation?

Thank you very much for the encouraging comment

What really makes me fall in love with Unreal is how quick acceptable results can be archived. With traditional 3D packages (Blender, Lightwave, Max…) it took hours to render a single scene with a duration of some seconds - to finally realize everything needs to be adjusted and rendered again. Now all the important things like camera settings, light, bloom, lensflare, depth of field, particle system settings (!) can be adjusted in realtime. And the cinematic tools seem to work stable. The whole interface appears technically mature and well thought out like e.g. the helpful, little Search slot above each of the panels, multiple outliner/content browser windows etc.

The second BIG advantage is the marketplace. I do not have the time, patience and motivation any more for modeling and texturing everything from ground up. The marketplace has so much brilliant stuff to offer … together with the engine this is a giant playing field for letting your creativity explode.

Not sure about the meaning of “bit of an edge”. Maybe you mean if the 3D background helped to jump into Unreal adventure? Definately. If i had to start from zero with transforms, textures, UVs, weightmaps and keyframes i fear i would have lost motivation.

About your last question: yes, the music is my own creation. I compose and arrange electronic music on a non-commercial, semi-professional base since 25 years. At least one hobby that does not necessarily need a computer
