"Multiple Roots Found" in skelmesh built in MAYA 2020

Hi, I’m a game art and animation student and this semester I was in charge of all the rigging and animation in my game production class. Our game must be in Gold status by Tuesday for our final but we are just barely scraping Beta still because of a major error in our main characters skelmesh, which I created. All the animation is done, but because the skelmesh won’t import into our project file, none of it can be applied.

The error message observed by the programmers and myself claims that “Multiple roots are detected in the hierarchy.”

We thought at first it may be because two meshes are present in the FBX as the character holds a lute which is separate from the character, parented to the characters hand via locater. However, exporting without the lute prop prompts the same error message.

I have done hours of research on the subject at this point and even tried to enlist my animation professor on the matter but he hasn’t been very responsive amid the times. The only fixes I could find involved either Blender or 3DS Max, both of which I don’t use. This is my last attempt to solve the issue before production ends for our game.

I’ve looked my hierarchy in MAYA up and down and I can’t find anything that would cause errors. From my perspective there is already ONE sole root and ONE sole hierarch in my export skeleton.

I was only just taught basic rigging last fall and do not understand the logistics any further than I am able to currently see in my project. Please help me, I’m desperate.

Hi, I’m sorry to hear about your situation. I’m having the same problem right now. Did you ever solve it?
