Senior/Lead Gameplay Programer | full time on site

Job description

Implement gameplay systems in a self-organizing, interdisciplinary team
Write clean, well-tested, performant code
Write and maintain technical design and software system documentation
Analyze and optimize systems as required
Recognize opportunities to improve our games or general workflows, and seek to make these changes
Create and iterate new VR and AR gameplay systems for interaction and content creation

Required Qualifications and Skills

Strong C++ knowledge and math skills
A minimum of three years experience in software engineering
A minimum of two years of game industry experience
Ability to design and communicate gameplay systems to a team
Competence in writing solid, reliable, and efficient code
Experience with 3D game engines
Self-sufficiency

Desirable Qualifications and Skills

High-level experience with Unreal Engine 4 is preferred, but not necessary
Shipped console/PC title experience
VR and/or AR experience as a developer or user
Performance optimization skills
BS (or higher) in Computer Science or a similar discipline (i.e. Physics, Math, EE, etc.)
English and/or German language skills

Job description

This position is intended for someone interested in relocating to Germany (Visa and Relocation provided)
Work together closely with the Studio Head and Creative Director
Lead the programming department in designing and programming gameplay code in C++ in Unreal Engine 4
Create software structures and highly efficient algorithms
Independently identify areas for improvement and seek to make those changes
Find technical solutions for creative design requirements
Provide technical input for other programmers, and mentor junior programmers when appropriate
Report to the Studio Head and the parent company President

Required Qualifications and Skills

A minimum of six years of professional experience in the games industry as a game programmer, developer, or engineer
Experience in developing for VR/AR in a lead, manager, or director role on at least one project, OR experience working at an AAA gaming studio in a people-based or tech management role for at least one title
Demonstrated profiency with one or more current 3D game engines
High-level experience with Unreal Engine 4 is preferred, but not necessary
Expert in C++ and a proven lead role
Advanced experience with Unity 3D
Awareness of trends and new technologies
Excellent leadership and communication skills

Job description

Define the game’s vision and game design documents
Design and prototype core gameplay systems
Create and maintain internal design documentation, including feature specifications and implementation guides
Collaborate with the team to ensure the incorporation of systems into actual gameplay, and maintain overall balance between multiple gameplay systems
Design features that will increase user experience, engagement, and retention
Perform and analyze user testing, and recommend design solutions
Stay up to date on the state of the industry and the latest trends (including VR, AR, new game genres, and new game design methods)

Required Skills and Qualifications**

A minimum of five years of game industry experience, with two shipped console/PC titles
The ability to design and communicate gameplay systems to a team
The capability to work autonomously, independently, or in groups, when empowered with clear direction and trust
Demonstrated competence in defining and driving design processes in a group setting, including giving, receiving, and internalizing critical feedback, running creative meetings, and remaining open to new ideas and challenges

Desirable Skills and Qualifications**

Experience with Unreal Engine is preferred, but not necessary
Console/PC development experience
VR and/or AR experience as a creator or user
Experience with high-level programming languages, especially C++
