Mouse scroll wheel changes camera speed AND rotates the camera

Hi everyone, I’m new to UE 5.8.2. When I use my mouse wheel to change the camera speed, it also makes the camera turn unexpectedly. How can I stop the scroll wheel from changing the camera’s angle, and use it only for speed? Thanks!

Hello there @NaTMoD, welcome to UE!

From what I can check in engine, the mouse wheel only affects the camera speed while holding the right mouse button, meaning you are controlling the camera when doing so. Holding the mouse still should keep the camera in place, maybe adjusting the sensitivity would help too.

If you go to Edit > Editor Preferences > Level Editor > Viewports, you can adjust “Mouse Sensitivity” and “Mouse Scroll Camera Speed” values to your liking, making it more controllable to avoid angle changes.

For further reading on customizing your viewport and editor controls, check the following UE docs:

Thanks for the response! Modifying the sensitivity isn’t really a fix for the problem, though. The offset is still there, even if it’s smaller. This wasn’t a problem in other versions of UE5.

Here’s a video to better illustrate what I mean:

Hello again!

Thanks for the video, I see there’s a clear tendency for your camera to tilt just a bit to the left, each time you scroll the mouse wheel. I went ahead and installed UE 5.2.1 and UE 5.8.2 to double check myself, and I was unable to reproduce your issue, my camera remains in place while scrolling.

But your video proves that something’s happening. And it’s not something physical, or it would happen in 5.2 as well. The only thing that occurs to me, is that a software element tied to your mouse brand (let’s say, for example, Logitech) is interacting with UE 5.8 in a way that the older engine versions don’t.

For testing, if possible, I would try a different mouse, or updating/changing the controller software for it, and see if that makes a difference for your scenario.

Thanks for checking it out! Just wanted to say I have actually tried 3 other mice with the same problem. I also disabled all software that came with the mice, and moved the usb ports but unfortunately none of it worked. Any other idea what could be causing this in UE 5.8.2?
