Moring bathroom

I’m excited to share that I’ve just started a new Unreal Engine project!
It’s an environment piece set in a high school bathroom on the morning after a group of students snuck in to throw a party. This is my first week working on it, and I’ll be developing it over a total of five weeks.
Looking forward to sharing my progress soon!

This week I modeled and created the UVs for most of the assets. I textured the sink and I’m about to finish texturing the door. Now that the modeling is further along, I was also able to define the lighting coming through the doors and windows. Lastly, I locked in my camera shots as well.
Excited to keep moving forward!

This week has been a week of rethinking the project, since I wasn’t getting close to the aesthetic I really wanted. I feel much closer now. I removed the water I had added last week, improved the fog to achieve better god rays, adjusted the camera settings, created the floor in Substance Designer, and modeled the walls. I also modeled and textured the beer cans to start building the storytelling, textured the tables, and modeled and textured the chairs. After repositioning the tables, the scene now conveys a much stronger sense of the environment I’m aiming for.

Excited to keep refining the atmosphere!

This week was quite challenging. I ran into several issues and lost multiple files due to SSD problems. On top of that, the Unreal project started throwing errors it hadn’t before, so I spent most of the week putting out fires. Even so, I managed to create UVs and textures for several props, such as the office chair and the toilet. I also started working on decals and continued modeling assets like a skateboard and various alcohol bottles.

Hoping for a smoother week ahead!

This week I modeled, textured, and created the UVs for the entire stall bathroom area, the board, and the window. I finished the urinal, added spline meshes for the toilet paper on the floor, and created the camera animations, which are currently giving me some issues with exposure when exporting, as they appear much darker. In addition to that, I modeled and UVed the speaker, the wall sockets, and the extension cord.

Making steady progress despite a few technical hurdles!

Over the holidays, I modeled, UVed, and textured the entire speaker setup. As part of that, I also created the wall sockets, the light switches, and the extension cord. I worked on the whole piping section and added a few extra assets, such as the markers used for the graffiti tags.

As for complications, I ran into an issue when importing assets into Unreal where the smoothing groups were not being handled correctly, as well as a color space problem when exporting from DaVinci, which I believe I’ve now resolved. I also updated the camera animations and lighting in order to render a video, which I edited in DaVinci and enhanced with music. I’m hoping to have the project finished by next week.

This week I continued working on the cameras and lighting, producing several renders and putting together a video in DaVinci. I like the result overall, but I’m not fully convinced by the speed of the camera movements yet, so I’ll keep refining that. I also started working on a timelapse.

Getting closer to the final version!
